Phillis Wheatley used the power of words to shape American history. Enslaved as a child, she became the first published Black female poet in America, proving that intellect, faith, and talent could not be confined.
Her poetry challenged assumptions, elevated American literature, and affirmed the founding ideals of liberty and human dignity.
As we mark 250 years of independence, we honor Phillis Wheatley and the enduring role of Black Americans in shaping the American story.

----

Amine.
