The biggest circus in chess is around 1200. Some days, you play like a 400 and all your pieces disappear. Other days you are 1800 level, converting games flawlessly.
Friday fun times!! Who knows where this ridiculous rock comes from? Having my first play around with some 3D photo capture! Just wait for those garnets! Low res with the phone cam for now. But playing with a decent camera next! #geology#rocks#metamorphism#ore#ZeissNatRes
Day 51: Migmatite formed after interbedded psammite (left) and pelite (right). Melt escaping along the light-coloured channel (diagonal from the bottom right corner). At the metapsammite the channel branches because the higher competence inhibits migration. #100DaysofGeoscience
Sapphirine (with green-blue colour at PPL and low Interference colors at XPL), cordierite (with grey interference colors at XPL) and pyroxene (with pale pink colour at PPL and with high interference colors at XPL) in a granulite from gruf massif, italian Alps. 2x (Fov 7 mm).
Amidst all the pandemic induced despondence, some good news! Our paper on AFM based studies of grain boundaries in quartz as possible fluid percolation pathways is out now! Comments welcome 😁big shout out to @anujache

Interested in the scales of equilibrium in granulites? How are those pretty corona textures and compositional layers formed and preserved? Have a squiz. A recent one with @Wonkiergruff1, Katy Evans, Saibal Gupta and @chrisfpclark
