As of January 2026, Mayor Johnson signed a new “ICE On Notice” executive order directing Chicago police to document and investigate any alleged misconduct by federal immigration agents, even referring potential crimes to prosecutors. That’s on top of the earlier ICE-free zones.
Governor Pritzker continues backing the state’s TRUST Act, which blocks local police from helping ICE with civil immigration holds. The city’s sanctuary policy hasn’t changed, no cooperation on immigration enforcement.

As for non-citizen voting, that’s still illegal for any election in Illinois, including local ones but the Democrats need those votes and they continue to allow them voting privileges. No new developments there.

They’ve kept the sanctuary policies tight. Chicago’s Welcoming City Ordinance blocks police from helping ICE with civil immigration stuff, no holding people on detainers without a criminal warrant, no sharing non-public info, no letting ICE use city facilities.

Karmelo Anthony did not use a public defender. He was approved for one shortly after being charged, but his family hired Mike Howard who is a private criminal defense attorney in Dallas.

Stop spreading misinformation.

He has effective counsel but even with effective counsel, you can lose your case if your client is a thug murderer like Karmelo Anthony is, that has no valid defense for his actions.
