The only truth about God that holds is what He's revealed about Himself through the prophets and the incarnation.

He is simply recognising that Christianity is the fulfilment of Old Testament Judaism, which always pointed to Christ. Thus, rather than ceasing to be a Jew, he became a Jew who knows his messiah.
