@erlynerdgetbird Hey! Actually this was a mentee of mine, she is interested in working with nesting Clapper Rail. I think what she was trying to get at is how much variability does humidity introduce and how do people compensate for that in nest studies?
@brown_birds I'm currently using downloadable GPS/VHF tags, but my rails are good sized birds so they can take a medium sized tag. The smaller GPS tags general require the bird to be recaptured or for you to pay for satellite time to transmit the data remotely.
@brown_birds Very dependent on your question. As some have mentioned, CTT has some cool stuff right now but (at least for smaller birds) it takes a lot of infrastructure to get good data (I priced that out this past year for my work).
@AndrewBarnas We're still in limbo here... I wouldn't be surprised if they restrict us to only working at home. Or maybe let us go to the field, but forbid us from bringing in technicians from out of state, which would pretty much have the same result for my work.
I am very fortunate to live adjacent to a privately owned wooded area, and doubly fortunate that my VERY rusty Barred Owl call was enough to definitely end the argument "Was that an owl or a dog?" #QuarantineLife
Looking for online tools for teaching animal behavior or ornithology? Here's an inquiry module on manakin cooperation we made a while back, with Cornell's BirdCam team. Leave feedback and maybe we will even complete the other modules! https://t.co/DtOsBjV5ot
