While GDP is the established norm, it is also only effective in comparing nations that trade with & use the $USD.

It is also a poor metric that doesn't capture wealth/income distribution. In Canada like other nations-50% of the population own just 2.5% of the wealth.
Home ownership rates, savings, debt & taxation levels, disposable income are all equally or better metrics to rate a nations economic status.
