School may be starting for many, but last week we celebrated graduation! Over the last 8 weeks, our Youth Nutrition Outreach Training (YNOT) students learned nutrition, cooking skills, food safety, recipe development, and public speaking. On Friday, the students showed off their new skills with a cooking demonstration, serving up recipes they made themselves. Congrats, grads!

Earlier this week, representatives from New Jersey's food banks joined Senator @CoryBooker for a roundtable on the impact of SNAP changes and what's at stake for families across our state. There is no better advocate for what's on the line than Senator Booker, a senior member of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee, which oversees both SNAP and TEFAP.

As FBSJ President & CEO Jane Asselta stated, "Families across South Jersey face an affordability crisis. Food, utilities, healthcare – it's all rising while federal support is shrinking." TEFAP made up 62% of FBSJ's food in 2019. Last year, it was just 14%.

Thank you to all the food security champions who gathered on Monday, including pantry leader Cheri Slack from the Woodbury Cooperative Ministries pantry, and our sincere gratitude to @SenBooker for continuing to show up for our neighbors and support hunger relief efforts in our state.
