🇮🇳India will make their 10th appearance in the AFC Women's Asian Cup in 2026, marking history as India qualifies for the 12-team event in this format for the first time!
Some of the players have been playing in top-tier leagues abroad, let's take a look at some of them:
Thread🧵
The world of football is a miniature window to peek into the history of a nation. Each nation tells its own unique story through its football. The fans & the players aim to find new hope in their life by following the journey of their team.
Football is more than just a game. ❤️
@prasuniswas It is, this makes it really difficult to follow the journey of Indian football. But every once in a while, some great stories do emerge from here that gives a glimpse of hope for its future. From Real Kashmir FC to Aizawl FC each club have made a societal impact in their own way.
@Maxi_targaryen Well, Indian Football is being mocked and humiliated repeatedly due to some comments made by some individuals who don't even follow Indian football that well.
@prasuniswas Exactly, not just at the top level (i.e. AIFF) but it has penetrated deep into the state football associations and the district football associations.
@prasuniswas If they get support, it's good, but that's one of the least major problems in Indian football. Most of Indian football runs on uncertainty, there is severe mismanagement by the federation and the allocated budget is not utilized in developing grassroots and the league system.
@prasuniswas They follow European club football but not India's own club football structure which has over 500 clubs spread across 5 and more divisions. Anyone who blames cricket for the obstacles in Indian football are fabricating their own opinions without substantial evidence.
@prasuniswas As the founder of Khel Now says here, "football fan" from India does not necessarily mean "Indian football" fan.
Those who support European clubs are often completely detached from the issues in Indian football.
While those following Indian clubs are aware

@prasuniswas You won't find any "Indian football" fan asking why we don't qualify for the FIFA WC as they know the underlying issues quite well. We are far away from that, not even qualifying for a 24-team AFC Asian Cup 2027 is a far greater concern for which AIFF must be held accountable.
@prasuniswas I also can't tolerate these ignorant, uninformed individuals who make baseless comments without awareness about the ground reality of Indian football.
It's the football administration itself that is holding back on our progress, not cricket or other sports who are on their own.
@prasuniswas You would never find actual Indian football fans demeaning other sports like cricket.
Those who do, are ignorant and uninformed about the real issues in Indian football and detached from the ground reality. They don't follow it but jump to comment without full knowledge.
@prasuniswas Well then, I can't make you change your opinion. Since you believe sports have no place in the society and my account is dedicated to sports, this is where out paths diverge. I can't continue this pointless discussion.
Have a nice day.
Ain't this beautiful? We finally have a Youth League for women. It's only a 10-day league, but it's a start & an important one.
Indian football for long lacked a youth league for women's & the only talent pool was from Interstate championship Hope it expands to multiple months.
@prasuniswas It's really sad that some people think this way.
In any developed society, sports falls within the scope of educational curriculum. Sports and education are not disjoint events, but rather part of a bigger mental and physical well-being complemented by each other.
@Garvo_Gujarati Exactly, each town, region, or country tells its own unique story through the lens of its sports including cricket, football and other mass followed sporting events.
