Quite possibly the most OVERRATED player I’ve ever come across, he has the blessing of playing in by FAR the best club team in the World where he would have to be a terrible player in order to not receive a good amount of praise. He was a bench warmer for wolves for a reason.

I’ve never seen such clutching at straws as the BBC’s halftime commentary on Ronaldo, he was getting glazed for the most basic of striker movements, you’d swear his off ball movement was that of Mbappe’s.
🚨🗣️ Wayne Rooney:
“Cristiano Ronaldo is often caught in offside positions, but that isn’t laziness. It’s intelligence.
His movement forces defenders to constantly track him, creating space for his teammates.
Just watch his positioning. He’s incredibly smart.”
Very uninspiring half by Portugal, if it wasn’t for very poor decision making in the final for DRC they could be winning this game.
I had this drafted right before the Wissa goal, DRC have been the better team and Portugals “best in the world midfield” has been bossed.
Mbappe and Ronaldo are FAR more reliant on high talent level teammates to score than Messi is, the actions Messi requires his teammates to generate chances for him are far easier than that of Mbappe and Ronaldo.
One of the biggest misconceptions around Messi is that he needs “super teams” to be an affective goal scorer, he doesn’t, all he needs is competent players that have a good understanding of how Messi plays and have positional discipline.
All you Messi haters are lucky that he got Scaloni when he was in his late thirties.
A competent structure behind him in previous World Cups instead of the garbage he had and he'd be on 30 goals
@ESPNFC Never a red card, if you actually watch the video it’s completely incidental and insignificant contact, he’s tried pressing him and stepped around the man to avoid making a fouls and barely came down on his calf. Probably a yellow because of the recklessness of it.
@FUTDonkey Unfortunately for Messi he wasn’t playing in a time period where defenders were running 17 second 100M and were 5”11 and midfielders had a similar stamina level to that of current day Sunday league players. Maradona wouldn’t have been able to do what he was asking Messi to do.
@someballfacts You asked how many in world football are connecting with this (insinuating it’s a very low number), I reckon we’re looking in the thousands.
Also athleticism isn’t only determined by how high in the air your head can get.
@someballfacts Don’t actually think the use of the left is the issue hear, but rather he didn’t give himself enough space between him and the defender, if he slowed down or even stopped 3 yards back from where he received it he would’ve had a better angle. He should’ve stopped here.

He still is integral to Argentina’s potential success at World Cup.
