🗳️ Defend Our Democracy was proud to attend the @IECSouthAfrica official launch of its national campaign for the 2026 Local Government Elections.
Under the slogan "Get Up. Show Up. Vote,” the IEC has signalled not just the start of the campaign period, but a renewed commitment to making democracy accessible, credible and participatory for every South African.
We particularly commend the IEC for embracing technology as a tool for democratic inclusion, and for placing youth at the centre of this election campaign, not as an afterthought, but as the future this democracy must serve.
Local government is where democracy is lived daily, in your water, your roads, your safety. How can you as a citizen do your bit for democracy? Well, the 4 November 2026 elections is a great opportunity to get started on shaping who delivers on those promises in your community.
Two ways to act:
✅ Register to vote: make sure you're on the voters' roll! https://t.co/5t4loSfn2m
👁️ Become an Election Observer: join thousands of citizens helping to ensure our elections remain free, fair and accessible to all South Africans.
