📍 Investment, integrity and inclusive development: Reflections from Day Two of #WIF2026

Doha, Qatar | 25–27 October 2026

How do we turn investment into sustainable development?

At the World Investment Forum 2026, several developments stood out to us at @ForIntegrityOrg (YIB).

1. Modernising investment rules

UNCTAD launched its Guiding Principles for International Investment Agreements Reform and announced technical assistance to help developing countries improve investment facilitation, transparency and procedures.

The lesson? Investment commitments need effective institutions and practical reforms to deliver results.

2. Advancing women’s entrepreneurship

The 2026 UNCTAD Empretec Women in Business Awards celebrated women entrepreneurs across leadership, sustainability, innovation and technology. Uganda’s Sandra Letio of Pelere Group Limited was recognised for building an agribusiness working with over 5,000 smallholder farmers.

This is a reminder of the potential of locally rooted enterprises to strengthen livelihoods and expand economic opportunities.

3. Investing in the digital economy

The United Nations Investment Promotion Awards recognised agencies and a special economic zone for attracting investment in the digital economy. For YIB, this reinforces the importance of ensuring that digital transformation translates into accessible opportunities for young people and underserved communities.

What does this mean for Kenya?

Our work in integrity building, civic engagement and community accountability reminds us that development depends not only on resources, but also on transparent decisions, accountable institutions and meaningful public participation.

At #WIF2026, we are learning, exchanging ideas and initiating connections that we hope will grow into practical collaborations supporting inclusive, accountable and community-led development.

Investment should be measured not only by the capital it attracts, but by the opportunities it creates, the institutions it strengthens and the lives it improves.

We’re live at the 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐮𝐦 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐨𝐡𝐚, 𝐐𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐫, from 25–27 October!

At @ForIntegrityOrg (YIB), we believe investment should be about more than #capital flowing into #economies. It should also be about the #opportunities_created, the #communities_reached, the #institutions_strengthened and the public #resources_protected. As we engage with global conversations on investment, we’re keen to #learn, exchange #ideas and explore #partnerships that can strengthen accountable governance and community-led development back home in Kenya.

📍 Igniting Integrity, One Choice at a Time | #ChanukaNaDigiSkills

Corruption is rarely sustained by one act alone. It can thrive through everyday compromises, unchecked power, silence, weak accountability, and systems that allow wrongdoing to go unchallenged.

𝐒𝐨, 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐚 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲?

During our #Integrity_Session with Cluster 9, we went beyond defining integrity. We challenged assumptions, examined real-life examples of corruption from grassroots communities to global systems, and explored how our choices can enable corruption or help prevent it.

At the heart of the conversation was our integrity formula:

𝐈 = 𝐚(𝐀 + 𝐂 + 𝐄) − 𝐜

Answerability. Competence. Ethical behaviour. Strengthened by anti-corruption mechanisms.

We connected these principles to responsible AI use, ethical decision-making, and Ubuntu, the recognition that our humanity is bound up with that of others.

This work matters. As the global anti-corruption community focuses on igniting integrity and exposing the links between corruption and crime, young people must be equipped not only to recognise wrongdoing, but to question, challenge, and help change the conditions that allow it to persist.

That is part of advancing #SDG_16: peaceful, just and inclusive societies, supported by effective, accountable institutions.

📍From community realities to continental policy: Advancing water justice and accountability.

@ForIntegrityOrg (YIB) was represented at the @AU_ECOSOCC E-Symposium on Water and Sanitation, contributing perspectives from Kilifi County, Kenya, through our Kilifi Women for Water Justice Initiative. During the discussions, we raised important questions about accountability in water investments, the role of community-generated data in informing water budgets and service delivery, and the need to ensure that women and young people can see how their contributions influence decisions.

One message resonated throughout the symposium: water security is not achieved simply by building infrastructure. It requires sustainable financing, effective governance, community participation and accountability for the services people actually receive. As discussions move towards consolidating practical policy recommendations, we hope that the experiences of communities, particularly women and young people who face barriers to reliable water access, will remain central to the process.

📍Kilifi Women for Water Justice Initiative (#KW4WJ) | Women’s Healing Circles

Water insecurity doesn’t just leave taps dry; it can leave women emotionally exhausted, overwhelmed and unheard. Through our #WaterWithIntegrity campaign and the Women’s Monthly Healing Circles, we are creating safe, supportive spaces where women can share their experiences, find strength in one another, and navigate the emotional and social burdens of water insecurity. Because water justice is about more than access to water. It is about women’s dignity, wellbeing and the right to be heard.

When women come together, healing becomes collective, solidarity grows, and voices become stronger.

Today, @ForIntegrityOrg (YIB) joined the @KilifiCountyGov @DOHKilifi @Youthsports003, and fellow stakeholders to commemorate World Mental Health Day under the global theme: “Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change.”

Listening is only the beginning. Real change happens when we challenge stigma, create safe spaces, take people’s experiences seriously, and turn their voices into action. At YIB, we believe that every person deserves #dignity, #compassion, and the #freedom to speak without fear of judgment. Because being heard can be the beginning of feeling seen. 📍Who gets a say in decisions about water?💧

Water justice is not only about whether a pipe, borehole or water point exists. It is also about whether the people who depend on those services have a meaningful voice in how they are planned, managed and monitored. Through the Kilifi Women for Water Justice Initiative (#KW4WJ), supported by #WaterJusticeFund from @wateraidnl, we are creating spaces where women can bring lived experiences to the table, engage duty bearers, ask questions, and participate in shaping solutions. Because lasting water security cannot be built for communities without building it with them.

📍When Water Infrastructure Fails, Who Is Accountable?💧

Water justice is not only about building infrastructure. It is about building #systems where communities have a #voice in what is built, how it is managed, how services are monitored, and who is held accountable. In our #baseline survey, we saw water pipes cut, boreholes vandalized and water points damaged, sometimes by the very communities that depend on them. The #consequences go far beyond the damaged infrastructure: water is wasted through #leakages, households go without supply, water #bills can increase, and scarce public resources may have to be #redirected to repair what has already been built instead of expanding access to communities that still have none. This is why community #participation and #ownership matter. When communities are meaningfully involved in identifying #priorities, shaping #interventions, #protecting infrastructure and #monitoring services, 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲. 𝐈𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠.

With support from the #WaterJusticeFund, powered by @wateraidnl, we are working through the Kilifi Women for Water Justice Initiative (#KW4WJ) to strengthen women’s participation in water governance, amplify community voices, and build stronger pathways for accountability and collective action.

📍What happens when women stop waiting for someone else to speak for them?

They ask questions. They seek answers. They engage the institutions responsible. They organize. And they begin to shape the decisions that affect their lives. Through the Women Healing Circles under the Kilifi Women for Water Justice Initiative (#KW4WJ), women are creating spaces to speak openly about water insecurity, understand their rights, examine how water services are governed, and engage duty bearers on the issues affecting their communities. Because women are not merely recipients of water services. They are rights holders, community leaders and powerful actors in advancing water justice. And when women have the knowledge, confidence and space to participate, community concerns can become evidence, evidence can become dialogue, and dialogue can become action.
