I feel like a lot of people who are saying it's ridiculous the mom got arrested for leaving one of her kids to babysit the other three, didn't read the story and don't realize she was arrested *because one of her kids got struck in the head with a dumbbell*.

I'm of the opinion we do overpolice child supervision these days, and it should be legal to leave an older kid in charge of a younger kid for a few days. But if a child actually gets hurt as a result of that arrangement, someone needs to be liable.
