The Catholic Church distinguishes between sexual orientation and sexual acts. A homosexual inclination is not a sin, and at times such an inclination may especially in young people be temporary. Homosexual acts, however, are considered morally wrong by the Church, as are premarital relations, pornography, or masturbation. Forgiveness is always possible.

A union between persons of the same sex is not regarded by the Catholic Church as marriage. The Church is open to all who wish to live according to the Gospel of Jesus.

Gender is not merely a feeling or a social experience. The Catholic Church emphasises the permanence and significance of biological sex. Those who suffer from gender dysphoria should be supported, but medicine should not be guided by an ideology in which a person completely defines their own nature.

We live in an over-sexualised society, where love is easily confused with emotions and sexual desire. There are different forms of love. I myself live in celibacy, dedicated to God and to my neighbour, and I experience my heart as being full of love.

If we cherished love in its deepest meaning, free from over-sexualisation, we would gain more friendship and connection in families and in society as a whole.”
