Tradition means giving votes to the most obscure of all classes, our ancestors. It is the democracy of the dead. Tradition refuses to submit to the small and arrogant oligarchy of those who merely happen to be walking about.
Christ knows that man is miserable. Do not give thyself up to despair and apathy, assuming that thou hast been prepared for the fire. Christ derives no consolation from thrusting us into the fire; He gains nothing if He sends us into the abyss to be tormented.
Ephrem the Syrian
Wondrous is prayer accompanied by tears, especially tears shed in secret. If your heart has been hardened, weep before the Lord, that He might shine upon you the illumination of knowledge and grant that with an ardent heart you might be carried up to Him.
St. Ephrem the Syrian
"Before you say anything He will already know what you intend to say. Before you open your lips, He will see what is in your heart. You will not be able to say, 'I have sinned,' before you see Him stretch forth His hands to receive and embrace you."
St. Ephrem the Syrian
"Arise, O soul that has grown old in sins, and renew thyself with repentance. From contrition and tears mix thyself an ointment and heal the wounds of the fallen image in thee...for the All-good One will spare thee who are fallen."
St. Ephrem the Syrian, Prayer 103
"...I who was broken, am restored; who was wretched, am triumphant; who was dissipated, am healed; who was desperately outlawed, find hope; who was condemned to death, find life..."
St. Gregory of Narek, Prayer 11
