Dr. Karangwa highlighted that RFI’s uniqueness lies in its integrated structure, housing more than 10 laboratories under one institution, unlike in many countries where forensic labs are scattered across different security agencies and often inaccessible or expensive for civilians.

Le #Rwanda a noué des partenariats avec deux institutions, l'une française et l'autre turque, qui collaboreront avec lui dans le développement des sciences forensiques appliquées à la justice. Cette coopération a été obtenue lors de la conférence internationale « International Association of Forensic Sciences (#IAFS2026) », consacrée au développement des preuves scientifiques et technologiques utilisées dans le système judiciaire, organisé dans la ville de Sofia, en Bulgarie.
Cette conférence internationale réunit des chercheurs, des scientifiques, des experts en technologies ainsi que d'autres professionnels afin d'échanger sur les solutions aux défis auxquels le secteur est confronté. Le Rwanda y est représenté par le Rwanda Forensic Institute @ForensicsRwanda), en collaboration avec l'African Forensic Sciences Academy (#AFSA), dont le siège est installé à Kigali depuis 2022. Dans un entretien accordé à l' @IGIHE, le Directeur général de RFI, Dr Charles Karangwa, a indiqué que cette conférence, ouverte le 25 mai 2026, a permis au Rwanda d'acquérir une riche expérience ainsi que de nouveaux partenaires.

The #Rwanda Forensic Institute (@ForensicsRwanda ), specialized in scientific and technical forensic services applied to justice, is taking part in the official opening ceremony of the world congress on forensic sciences known as “#IAFS2026.”
This international event, bringing together institutions working in this field from around the world, is being held in the #Bulgarian capital, #Sofia, from May 24 to 30, 2026.

At the ongoing IAFS2026 in Sofia, Dr Charles Karangwa today delivered a presentation highlighting Rwanda as Africa’s next regional forensic hub and a strategic destination for international forensic collaboration. He emphasized Rwanda’s unique model of an independent forensic institution integrating cross-cutting forensic disciplines under one entity — a rare approach across many African countries in the forensic science domain.
Dr. Charles is leading the Rwandan delegation participating in , currently taking place at the National Palace of Culture.
