My 2024 pumpkin (or Munchkin?)
Whether you’ll be trick-or-treating with your adorably costumed kiddos, or carving an icon of existential terror into a fruit that will immediately rot on your front porch, or both…Happy Halloween!!!

@dfagan131 @quality_nguyen THANK YOU! How is it not obvious to everyone that instructing readers on the proper interpretation of results they *didn’t get* literally introduces a totally unnecessary risk of harming patients. It’s insane
@dfagan131 @quality_nguyen A get viscerally angry seeing reports that prominently feature a comment like “A negative result means…”, but the *actual* result (positive) is crammed into some weird spot near the top right due to some bizarre indent/tab scheme. I’ve seen it result in missed diagnosis
@dfagan131 @quality_nguyen Exactly. It’s best to have the actual result buried somewhere near the bottom in a smaller font size—still Courier obviously, to avoid clashing with the original typed copy of your 40 year old patient’s newborn screen. Makes it fun, like a high stakes treasure hunt
@jtrebach@AmyHDeekenMD Whoa. That these larvae contain enough thiaminase to induce deficiency is indeed beriberi interesting. Thanks I’ll see myself out.
[Turns on heel, steps directly into open manhole]
It occurs to me:
this patient is not intubated. There’s no IV. The surgical field isn’t draped. His eyes are open.
This isn’t an “operation”…
it’s an autopsy
[Blasts air horn] Listen up! Stop what you’re doing and go see Everything Everywhere All At Once, by @Daniels—the most audacious, astonishing, hilarious, and perhaps above all else *poignant* movie you’ll ever see. Unbelievable. Incredible that it even exists. A triumph. So good

(I just took this photo for you. It’s my desk at work, as I sit here typing this. Below the book of interest is my copy of Calendar 22 by @TezzoSUZUKI])
