I wrote the song "October on the Boardwalk" about growing up in the Atlantic City, New Jersey area in the 1970s and early ‘80s and about losing a High School friend, Atlantic City Police Officer Peter Egnor who was killed in the Line of Duty on October 14, 1981. Pete was just 20 years old.
I was fortunate to be able to see and talk with Pete for a while, one last time on the night of October 12-13, 1981 on the Beach in Atlantic City while he was doing crowd control as the famed Million Dollar Pier was burning down.
This is a special one to me; it is about growing up in Southern New Jersey and remembering when Atlantic City Police Officer Peter Egnor, a high school friend and teammate, was killed in the line of duty.
I can't believe that this year will mark the 45th anniversary of Atlantic City Police Officer Pete Egnor being killed in the line of duty on October 14, 1981. Pete was a High School friend and teammate.

Here are the Lyrics to the song:
I grew up where the pine trees lean,
Holdin’ secrets in that Jersey green.
Dirt roads and a restless heart,
Didn’t know then that it was the start.
Sunday mornings in our Easter best,
Paradin’ the boards, feelin’ blessed.
Salt air mixed with a young man’s pride,
Pines at my back, the ocean wide.
We thought time would always wait,
Didn’t know how fast it takes.
From the Pines down to the boardwalk rail,
Every prayer caught in the ocean gale.
No matter how far this road may start,
The sound of home still beats my heart.
Summers burned bright on Atlantic City nights,
Steel Pier glowin’ in carnival lights.
The divin’ horse leapt through the sky,
Crowds held their breath as the years flew by.
Chicago sang us into the dark,
Iron Maiden left its spark.
Down in the Diving Bell, countin’ time,
Laughin’ like the world was mine.
We didn’t hear what the future said,
Didn’t see the turns ahead.
From the Pines down to the boardwalk lights,
We learned joy and loss the same night.
Every sunset, every scar,
Made us who we really are.
Officer Pete Egnor walked those halls with me,
Holy Spirit High, Friday lights and dreams.
Teammates shoulder to shoulder, learnin’ how to stand,
Talkin’ ‘bout tomorrow like it’s in our hands.
Same laughs, same faith, same hometown start,
Same pine-rooted hope in a teenage heart.
October twelfth, nineteen eighty-one,
Million Dollar Pier burnin’ like a fallen sun.
I stood on the beach as the ash fell down,
Saw Pete in uniform, keepin’ order in town.
Next day came and duty called his name,
October fourteenth—nothin’ was the same.
A good man gone, but his light still stays,
In the quiet between those burning days.
From the Pines down to the boardwalk sea,
I carry every piece of who we’d be.
Some names are written in more than stone,
They echo wherever the tide rolls home.
Time moves on like the tide each day,
But some footprints never wash away.
Every siren, every silent prayer,
I feel my old friend standin’ there.
The lessons learned on a pine-lined road,
Still guide me home with every load.
From the Pines down to the boardwalk rail,
Love outlasts every fire and gale.
I’ve traveled far, but I still start
Where the sound of home beats my heart.
For a friend who stood the line,
I remember you—every time.
When the boards go quiet and the lights burn low,
I still walk those steps nice and slow.
From the Pines… to the shore…
You’re with me now, for-ever-more.
