I gave Keir Starmer a copy of Doughnut Economics just 10 days before he became Labour Party Leader. So will the book make it onto his bookshelves in Number 10? More importantly: will policies for a regenerative & distributive UK become real under this government?...
The book 'Doughnut Economics' opens with the story of Yuan Yang who, as a young economics student back in 2008, was challenging the outdated theory she was being taught. Last night she was elected as the first-ever MP for Earley & Woodley. Huge congratulations @YuanfenYang !
As you may know Ruth Perry’s sister, Julia Waters, does not ‘do’ X so, on this election day I bring to you an important message. I’ve been with Julia on practically every step of this journey and can testify to the truth of every word she writes:
I'm itching to give Labour a kicking over Brexit. My foot is twitching so hard. Especially after yesterday's last minute blow. But I won't. And here's why:
The LibDems coming second are our best chance of advancing the cause. Banned topics would be back on the table: Single Market, Customs Union, even Rejoin.
Change wouldn't happen overnight or even quickly, but having a party with a loud voice focused on the issue will be dramatically different from 5 more years of the Tories bashing immigrants and fomenting culture wars.
But for the LibDems to have any chance of coming second, two things need to happen:
1) They need to win everywhere they can
2) Other parties need to beat the Tories everywhere they can. And that includes Labour. If all the other parties defeat swathes of Tories, the battle for second place shifts closer and closer to favouring the LibDems.
Tactical voting can make it happen.
If the Tories are 1st or 2nd in your constituency, vote for the party best placed to beat them, regardless of what that party is.
If the Tories are 3rd or lower in your constituency, vote LD if they're in the top 2, or whichever party you like if they're not.
his website will give you the latest tactical vote for each constituency, based on recent polls and local factors.

Whatever you decide to do, please vote if you can.
THREAD: Given tomorrow's election, I've been thinking about our nation's (poor) health, the wider determinants of health and how these have worsened and what it means for policy....
TLDR: worrying only about NHS & social care is missing the point
let's dive in... 1/25
You have a huge decision to make on Thursday:
1) Tories in Opposition. 5 years of endless culture wars & immigrant-bashing.
2) LibDems in Opposition. Tories powerless & voiceless on the back benches.
If the Tories are pushed into third, everything changes. Here's why:
1/12
Oh this is the most beautiful, bloody heartbreaking story of why libraries matter for reasons far beyond the books. I urge you to read it. Two humans at Battle library holding up so many different people with nowhere else to turn. Awful & magical. https://t.co/Wvy4WF7grN
GP Gavin Shields, "We have far too many patients struggling to get GP appoints.. It costs more money in the long term"
"We would like to employ more GPs and we know we have significant number of GPs unemployed, unable to find work"
Victoria Derbyshire, "So employ more"
Gavin Shields, "We can't because the core funding that goes into our practcies is not enough, and it has fallen in real terms.. And in England the contract says we are not allowed to employ GPs"
Victoria Derbyshire, "Why not?"
Gavin Shields, "We are not allowed"
Victoria Derbyshire, "Maria Caulfield, what's the rationale for that? Why can't GPs practices employ more GPs?"
Maria Caulfield, "The are roles for outher healthcare professionals.. That was agreed with GPs"
Victoria Derbyshire, "So you can employ other people to help?"
Gavin Shields, "We can't employ practice nurses"
URGENT! Pls share. The last chance to register to vote in the General Election is 11.59pm tomorrow Tue 18 June. Potentially 8m aren't registered at their current address. Here's 4 key facts...
1) You can do it online here https://t.co/i4FhJoAXfK
2) It's good for your finances. Not being on electoral roll can make it more difficult to be accepted for credit products like bank accounts or mortgages.
3) You can opt out of the 'Open Register' (which allows your info to be sold on) which will stop you getting junk mail marketing )
4) You'll need ID when you do vote (not to register) if you don't have it, you can get it free until Wed 26 June https://t.co/9bfL3hw3CV
I hear the press have got hold of some pictures and so I have been forced to make this statement. Needless to say, I apologise. https://t.co/mNRsQ57iTF
I spoke at length and extensively with Nigel Farage for 3 weeks while in the jungle. I wanted to make my own mind up about him and his views. Conclusion is simple. He was very good at washing the dishes in the river but when it comes to politics he has no plan and no substance
