Sheffield Forgemasters has seen its recapitalisation plan increased from £900 million to £1.3 billion to increase capacity for defence manufacture.
Under the Government’s announced increase in defence spend, the infrastructure at Sheffield Forgemasters has been challenged to meet additional demand for its unique output, with greater resilience, faster production, and reduced lead times.
The company supports UK sovereign production of nuclear submarine and warhead programmes.

Sheffield Forgemasters has begun steelwork assembly on the UK’s largest open die forging line.
The company is building a new 13,000-tonne forging line at Brightside Lane, with steelwork for the building projecting to 45 metres high, more than ten metres taller than surrounding structures.
With steelwork for our 30,000 m2 New Machine Shop on nearby Weedon Street at an advanced stage, the construction works are transforming the traditional manufacturing heartland of the city, dwarfing the adjacent Meadowhall Shopping Centre and IKEA Superstore.

Sheffield Forgemasters proudly celebrated the achievements of its apprentices at the Bright Sparks Awards 2026, held at Sheffield United FC’s Bramall Lane Stadium.
The event recognised outstanding early career talent while highlighting the strength of the apprenticeship and mentoring programmes that underpin the future of our business. The awards showcased apprentices who are already making a meaningful contribution across safety, quality, innovation, teamwork and leadership.
This commitment sits alongside Sheffield Forgemasters’ wider investment in people, skills and long‑term capability, supported by significant recent investment in the business. Developing high‑value engineering and manufacturing skills locally is critical to the future of both the organisation and the wider South Yorkshire economy. By continuing to invest in apprenticeships, mentoring and early career pathways, Sheffield Forgemasters is helping to build a sustainable pipeline of skilled talent, retain expertise in the region and create opportunities for the next generation to thrive in advanced engineering careers close to home.

Sheffield Forgemasters is celebrating 90 years since the first Spitfire aircraft took to the skies thanks to one of its famous predecessors, Vickers- Armstrong.
The company is marking 250 years of engineering history, including production of the famous Spitfire, which first took to the skies in 1936, eight years after Vickers-Armstrong purchased Supermarine, renaming it Supermarine Aviation Works (Vickers) Ltd.
Now owned by the Ministry of Defence, the River-Don site also manufactured all the crankshafts for the Rolls-Royce’s Merlin V12 engines, which powered legendary WW2 aircraft including the Spitfire, Avro-Lancaster Bomber, Hawker Hurricane, De-Havilland Mosquito and Vickers Wellington Bombers.
Smokefree Sheffield, helping smokers quit throughout the city region.
Thanks for hosting us Sheffield Forgemasters @ForgemastersHQ. Our advisor Aleks ran a pop-up clinic and spoke to members of staff about the service & how we can help smokers quit, switch or cut down.
Our latest drone footage showcases our vast industrial developments in the North of the City.
As the company celebrates its 250-year anniversary, construction is well underway on a 30,000 m² machining hall and a new 13,000 tonne forging line at the Brightside site, with images showing the foundations and advancing steelworks.
As we reach the end of first quarter of 2026, both plots are progressing on schedule, with steelwork set to commence in the next few weeks on the Forge site, and steelwork on our New Machine Shop site by the River Don already dominating the Meadowhall skyline.
