While I was working today, this little dog walking by, Mia, sat down on the sidewalk and stared up at me. I feel Mia knew I've had a long week. Either that or...she's a golden, and this is kinda what they do. Either way...we don't deserve dogs. Thanks Mia (and your person too)
Well. I had to know more about all this. Here's what I've gathered. His name's Pluggie...and the Robotronics Inc. company introduced him to cities across the country starting in the late 80s. He helps teach fire safety…like having working smoke detectors. Thanks Pluggie!
I stumbled across this 1986 video in the @NC5 archive. No reporter track (story would have been read live), so...I didn't have full context. It's a press conference of "the newest state employee"...a remote control fire hydrant who rolls around and winks. (Cont.)
Time has come. The VHS Christmas tree is coming down and getting boxed up until December rolls around again. This is a small portion of the VHSes I still have. I’ve had that Day of the Triffids and Yog: Monster From Space since I was…three? What can I say. I was always me. #vhs
Everyone in the family knows I love real oddities for Christmas, and one of my cousins came through with this one. It’s a music box…coffin. It says Herein Lies The Spirit. I don’t recognize the tune…but inside there’s a prop bottle and two shot glasses. So odd. So great.
@NoINed@sonicdrivein Oh good! I’m always glad to see ole Tater Tot is well…and still surly to all people. Never change, Tater Tot…Queen of your fast food castle.
Yup. I look so crazy. New Year’s Eve party last night! It was a costume thing…with the theme being eras. So. The fashion. Famous faces. All that. I up and decided…Andy Warhol.
Happy New Year, friends! May we all be famous for 15 minutes in 2026.
No spoilers. All I’m sharing is…yes, I’ve watched the finale…and for me, it’s perfect.
I’d be fine with @Stranger_Things going another 20 years…that just remains in the 80s for some reason. But. If it has to wrap, then for me, it could not have wrapped better. #StrangerThings
This is the final day for The Groove record store at its Calvin Ave. location in East Nashville. The owners are now working out details on the store's next spot and plan to announce it in 2026. Pretty unique little place, and I dig their love of horror movies and pop music.
There’s one more screening of Opryland USA: A Circle Broken at 3:20 today at the @Belcourt. Congrats to director Brandon Vestal! He’s been collecting video of the park for years for this project. I got to catch it earlier this week. It’s such a nostalgic love letter to the park.
Part of the Christmas haul. Got a vinyl of the Vanity 6 album…an Audrey II shirt…a Scream mug…some OutKast action figures…an old music box that looks like a coffin.
Y’know. The usual stuff people get for Christmas. Hope you all had a good one!
Ended up catching some of @SYFY’s Twilight Zone marathon on Christmas night. Didn’t see it last night, but I carry a torch for the episode called Living Doll. The one with Talky Tina. It’s the first Twilight Zone episode I ever saw as a kid. Total classic. Have a fav episode?
All In The Family’s season 8 has a two parter, and it’s…a lot. I won’t go into the plot because it’s such a downer, but it involves a character named Beverly La Salle. Edith Bunker is my favorite sitcom character, and woo…does actress Jean Stapleton bring the feels to this one.
As I’m deciding what to watch for Christmas Eve, lemme ask the class…what’s your favorite Christmas episode of a TV series?
I lean toward two…and, oh man, are they different extremes…
Christmas at Pee Wee’s Playhouse is such an explosion of pure camp. The cameos are somehow bonkers yet perfect. This…is not for everyone, but I see it as a work of art. And that Little Richard appearance is hilarious…
Just gave a rewatch to American Graffiti. What’s especially striking to me is this. The film is a nostalgia piece. Yet. It came out in 1973…with a story set in 1962. Speaks to changes of the late 60s (music, cars, clothes, everything) that the 11-year gap would seem so distant
Have you seen American Graffiti? A backdrop for the film is Mel's Drive-In. A third-generation owner has opened a spot in Nashville. He’s sharing a family story involving a little US history...George Lucas…and a certain someone named Betty. https://t.co/yE4chwkCCv
Having a Dec. 5 birthday means I share it with Walt Disney. Though…my favorite I share a bday with is a tie between Little Richard and Large Marge here (…if you know you know).
I’ve also just learned Dec. 5 is the night Krampus visits. Nice.
Share a birthday with anyone cool?
Time has come! Return of the VHS Christmas tree! I’m going for a mom and pop video shop sorta vibe. I change it up every year…though there’s been one constant. It’s A Wonderful Life always gets to be the star on top. As always…we wish you a Merry Christmas and a be kind rewind.
So, I know we all have strong takes on the best Christmas movie...but is it nearly universally accepted that the best Thanksgiving movie is Planes, Trains and Automobiles? Does the great Addams Family Values count in the debate?…for its first Thanksgiving play scene?
