The Fort Erie Race Track team mourns the passing of legendary trainer Gil Rowntree, a true icon of Canadian horse racing. Gil’s connection to Fort Erie was special — he saddled multiple Prince of Wales Stakes winners on our historic track, etching his name into our record books and thrilling fans for decades with his skill, class, and dedication to the sport.
His legacy will forever be part of the heart and soul of Fort Erie Race Track. Our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire racing community. Rest in peace, Gil.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame we are pleased to announce the brand new Richard Grubb Cup will be run at Fort Erie Race Track this season.
Richard was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2024 and still calls Fort Erie home, so we're proud to recognize him with this honour.

Congratulations to Patrick Husbands on a legendary career and a well-deserved retirement. From that unforgettable day at Fort Erie in 2003 when you and Wando launched the Canadian Triple Crown sweep, you’ve been one of racing’s true greats.
