Creating Safe Cities for Women and Girls
We are proud to partner with @PlanUganda through the Safe and Inclusive Cities Program, working together to build urban spaces where women and girls are free from fear, violence, and discrimination.

Monica ( @moniemedia) always dreamed of charting her own path. Growing up in an informal settlement, she watched her mother work tirelessly to support the family. When tragedy struck and her mother passed away a few years ago, Monica and her siblings had to mature quickly and face new responsibilities.
Her passion for dance opened a doorway to @TouchTheSlumUG, where she discovered her potential and was encouraged to explore new paths. But it was photography that ignited a fire within her—a powerful calling that set her apart and gave her a voice.
As the first female photographer in her immediate and extended family, Monica is breaking barriers and blazing trails. Through her lens, she captures not just images but stories of resilience and strength. She understands that mastering her craft takes physical endurance, relentless practice, and unwavering dedication.
Monica also recognizes the importance of presenting herself professionally and maintaining her appearance. Working with diverse clients has taught her how to navigate different personalities, negotiate effectively, solve problems, and turn challenges into opportunities.
Her ambitions are clear: to own her own photography equipment, receive formal training in communications, and establish her own studio. Step by step, she is saving diligently to bring these dreams to life.
I am confident Monica has a bright future ahead and I wholeheartedly wish her success as she pursues her goal of becoming a leading female photographer.
Monica is not just pursuing her passion — she’s leading the way for generations to come.
