We’re partnering with @mainstreetweets to highlight GOP Delegate Amanda Batten’s disastrous record on health care, and we’re running ads in 3 more races to help send legislators to Richmond who will protect small business owners from Trump’s economy. Read our press release here:
In 2017, Democrats controlled just 29 state legislative chambers. As Trump returns to office, we hold 39 chambers - giving states critical power to protect democracy and our fundamental rights.
With a looming Trump presidency & Republican gov't control, states will provide the strongest bulwark against threats to our democracy in coming years. The work continues amidst the unprecedented headwinds we will face. State legislatures will continue to be the lever for change.
"Democrats beat back global headwinds that could’ve turned this squeaker into a landslide."
As we close out a tough year that didn't unfold as planned, let's not forget that down-ballot Democrats held back a red wave in a tough electoral environment.

We can expect Republicans at the federal & state levels to synchronize their agendas to shape a policy landscape that will be detrimental to our democracy. Dems secured victories in November, but the fight to restore power at the state level continues. https://t.co/DfG3BbEtWs
This election year, we accomplished crucial wins in the states, including:
✅protecting the Pennsylvania House
✅making gains in the Wisconsin legislature
✅breaking the GOP supermajority in North Carolina
✅holding onto the Minnesota Senate

Let's not forget: the Democratic wins at the state level will serve as a bulwark against the GOP's extremist agenda and help protect our rights for the next four years 💙

The work we did this cycle has proven vital. By focusing our investments in states with the narrowest margins, we've created a ripple effect that will position Democrats for even more victories in 2026 and 2028.
The states continue to be the backstop of our democracy.
The Democratic gains in North Carolina, despite Trump's electoral victory, are keeping Democrats optimistic for the future.
“Democrats have to feel pretty good. But they’ve still got a lot of work to do for 2026 and 2028.”

Despite the losses, Democrats earned victories that have positioned us to continue reclaiming power in the states in 2026 & beyond:
➡️ Held & won a majority in the Pennsylvania House
➡️ Broke the supermajority in North Carolina
➡️ Gained seats in the Wisconsin Assembly & Senate
"The MAGA playbook doesn’t work at the state legislative level. Trump is Trump, and he’s incredibly masterful at what he does, but as we see time after time, Republicans struggle to duplicate it.”

"Cycle after cycle we build the best sailboat we can in state legislatures but we don’t control the wind at the higher level of the ballot."
We must find hope in state legislatures & view this cycle as laying the groundwork for elections to come.

Democrats in state legislatures held off a GOP wave this year:
"The underlying evidence doesn’t exactly point to a huge newfound mandate for their party — or for a far-reaching Trump agenda."

We held off the red wave in state legislatures, and we're ready to keep pushing forward. With a Trump presidency and potential GOP Congress looming, protecting every critical foothold in the states is absolutely essential to our democracy. 💪
💙 It's been a tough week for so many of us, so we wanted to highlight the good news for Dems from state legislatures:
✅ We defended & WON the PA House!
✅ Our investments helped BREAK the GOP supermajority in NC!
✅ We secured gains in the Wisconsin Assembly & Senate!
Voters are heading to the polls in key battleground states. The power of state legislatures is front and center!
"As Congress remains largely gridlocked, state legislatures are productive, introducing more bills, and passing more laws."

Tonight, we're keeping a close eye on election results in the state legislatures in Arizona, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota. These outcomes could have a bigger impact on public policy than Congress.

This election year, state legislatures are the most consequential ballot level shaping access to reproductive health care.
