I built a skin analysis app. The first time I tested it on myself, I realized everything I thought I knew about my own skin was wrong. A thread on why most skincare routines are built on a lie ๐งต๐

A couple of months ago, I ran out of face cleanser. I had to use just water for three days. My horrifically acne prone skin - including huge hormonal cystic zits - cleared up, 100%. Itโs been two months with just water and Iโve had maybe 2 tiny zits.
Is...skincare a lie?!!
@DrSkin_ That makes so much sense. I think in my case it was over-exfoliating. I was using acids way too often for my actual skin type. Once I stopped, everything calmed down. Do you think most people would benefit from just... starting over with a blank slate?
There is a gross amount of classism, sexism, and racism tied up in the idea that good skin/good health is a result of being a better person, living an appropriately โcleanโ life, because beauty industries sell us on the idea that health=morality.
Donโt fall for that.
The amount of you reading this and recommending other cleansers is concerning. This is WORKING, better than that 15ish cleansers I've tried in 25 years of having acne. The answer is whatever works.
