Oesterhaus fought for the Union, which, rightly or not, looked upon the Confederacy as Rebels, not exactly an "American" state of mind. I, for one, see secession as a necessary & legal option for groups of colonies that joined together of their own volition, but I think there's room here for discussion.

I was part of a distance learning service staffed by volunteers 30 years ago. It was fun, a little footloose & def. an advantage for students from Elementary all the way into grad school.
good times!
Japanese friend.
I am American, born here from family roots which stretch back at least 200 years.
My reaction to "How are you?" is exactly the same as yours.
I'm never certain how much sharing is too much.
I'm never comfortable replying "fine" when "fine" has nothing to do w/me.
America can be difficult.

Junior Partner requests that I relay this message to you: "The employee who originally granted you the title of 'boss' granted it to you with the floor as your demesne. The room where paint is stored is not part of the floor & so you had no authority there which is why you were asked to leave. Continue to use your authority on the floor wisely. You have begun this journey well."
@askaya from this fat, old man's bleary-eyed perspective:
you w/makeup is, frankly, pretty hot
you w/o makeup is cute, wholesome, pleasant & deeply appealing
right now, you get the win regardless
cheers!
When Wives Get Only PART Of The Story:
A man had a large tree in the backyard of his house. It was in poor shape & might blow over in the next bad storm, so he decided to fell it. He asked his brother for help, as the cut would be tricky. The pair took stock of the situation, agreed on cut location & size, fired up the saw & began. All went well. In just a few minutes, the huge, diseased tree thudded to the ground w/a tremendous crash. It landed in the exact spot the men had chosen. Nothing was damaged. Elated, the brothers shouted for joy, slapped a few high-fives & sat down to savor their win, backs against the tree, legs outstretched.
But only for a few moments.
They could hear the sirens in the distance, which was not uncommon, but noticed those sirens were getting louder, as though headed for a neighbor's house. Concern replaced celebration & they stood to see if there were smoke in the sky. Their concern ramped up when they realized that the sirens were now so loud that they MUST be right in front of their house & they headed towards the street to see what was happening.
As they crossed in front of the house, the door opened & the man's wife tore across the yard at breakneck speed, threw herself onto her husband, sobbing uncontrollably, clinging to him frantically as several firemen trotted across the yard.
Long moments passed before the distraught woman was able to speak. She had heard the tree fall. Had felt the house shudder w/its impact. Then, to her horror, she heard shouting & SCREAMS OF PAIN. She rushed to the back door, looked out & could see nothing but 2 pairs of legs extruding from beneath a massive tree trunk, realized the men were trapped beneath & rushed to get help. Unable to bear the sight of her beloved's pulverized & mangled body, she had been sobbing quietly in her kitchen awaiting confirmation of the disaster.
Moral: Mama's, don't let your babies grow up to do their own tree service.
@Nessakins_ When we first met w/friends & family present & she wouldn't let me leave the house to return to my home until I kissed her on the mouth, I got the impression she might be interested.
