He then specifically raised a 2024 One Nation “Please Explain” satire cartoon depicting figures like Dan Andrews being hit by a car, asking if such material has a “direct link.”Barrett noted general community “reactions” to heated discourse.

There is ZERO evidence linking that old cartoon or One Nation to the attack on Helen Haines by Brendan Nugent.

Nugent’s history involves mental health issues, environmental activism, and pro-Palestine views; he once praised Haines. The investigation is ongoing with no established political motive tied to the right.

Speers and the ABC should be ashamed for injecting an unrelated satirical cartoon into coverage of a horrific attack to push a narrative blaming the right. This has nothing to do with One Nation.
