I am filled with great joy and gratitude as I begin my service to you, the people of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas. Today, we begin our journey together, in service to God, as we live out our mission of growing as disciples of Jesus and making disciples for Jesus.
Cardinal George of Chicago spoke to our seminary after returning from the conclave in 2005. What brings me hope these days is something he said: the conclave was one of the most prayerful experiences of his life.
"An evangelizing community gets involved by word and deed in people’s daily lives; it bridges distances, it is willing to abase itself if necessary, and it embraces human life, touching the suffering flesh of Christ in others."

On April 8, Pope Francis appointed @BpShawnMcKnight as the fifth archbishop and 12th bishop of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas. He will succeed Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann, who has served the archdiocese since 2005.

The Catholic faithful in Kansas bid farewell to Fr. Arul Carasala, who was tragically shot dead last week.
“We are heartbroken. There are no words. If nothing else, I hope this video shows what type of man he was and how beloved he was by our parish community and school. He was not only our priest, but also our friend. Gone, but never forgotten. Until we meet again. We love you Father Arul.,” Ashley Carlson, a parishioner who shared this video said on social media.
In a world marked by pick-and-choose approaches to protecting human dignity — what Pope Francis has called “the throwaway culture” — brave and steadfast champions of life are sorely in need.
This is why Archbishop Joseph Naumann deserves particular attention — and his ministry deserves to be celebrated.

The ‘boat’ ... is human life. It's narrow indeed at its entrance and exit, which are wretched and bitter, but wide in the middle, wandering and wanton. No one can steer it properly unless he takes care to humble himself in the remembrance of death. — Saint Anthony of Padua ☠️
@BroStephenMary I asked a guide in Assisi if St Anthony was "hefty"-sized like I had heard (and like he's depicted in a fresco in the Basilica of St Francis). He said, "Yes! He was large like you, but he retained water." 😂
"#Racism is not a thing of the past. It is a real and present danger that must be addressed. As members of the church, we cannot remain indifferent and silent in the face of such injustice."
