@SmirnovJuri This was a couple of years ago now Juri. I’m coming back to X (Twitter) after not being very active on this account for a long while! I was very involved with advocating for in person lectures to resume as the covid restrictions eased as the uni planned on keeping them online
This is unbelievably frustrating. While online lectures sound good on paper and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor makes some good points, online learning cannot be the future unless it improves. It has been detrimental to my mental health, with an impersonal feel...1/?
If you missed it, here's a snippet from @NeilMorrisLeeds' earlier session:
"It's the people with the ideas, the creativity and the skills to harness, apply and use these tools, and the data they generate that gives us the opportunities for digital transformation."

@Paul_Porter_@BBCNews Mate check your misogyny. There are not levels. Harassment is harassment. And it has no place in the workplace. Women should feel safe and support. God help you if that was your daughter or wife.
@AliaBio@Almeida_de_Dr@autist333 Where do you guys get your pins from? I’d absolutely love some STEM related one for my work lanyard (fellow biologist here)
📣Calling all Univeristy of Leeds STEM students 📣
There’s a STEM careers fair happening tomorrow run by @LeedsUniCareers
I’ll be there with @PharmaronBio for you to ask about student placements and grad roles! Come find me!
@ScienceLeeds
...it shouldn’t be the ONLY option. Students were always told that going on to campus was the better option, and that watching the recording wasn’t as effective. And now we’re being told that online is the best option? And we’re expected to pay full fees? Absolutely baffling. 4/4
@RobinPa16722009 @BBCNews As we should. I’m paying over £9000 a year for sub-par online learning that we’re being told will continue in September without a good reason.
@stuart_avery3@BBCNews We’re legally allowed on campus as of yesterday. It is a university decision to remain online as apparently covid may still be bad in September. But I believe it’s a way of cutting corners.
@Mr_Jacksonandon@BBCNews This is simply not true. In September, on the current roadmap the world is supposed to be back to normal. And therefore there is no reason that I can see, covid-wise, that the uni shouldn’t offer in person lectures.
Students have been told that lectures will remain online in September. This is not acceptable and should not happen. @UniversityLeeds@UoLStudents@LeedsUniUnion @SEBuitendijk
Fran is one of more than 2,500 people who have signed a petition against Leeds University’s plans to keep lectures online in the Autumn term.
The university says it will still be offering students a good on campus experience.
