@MartinSLewis And….would it be acceptable if insurers, mortgage companies, banks/loans firms, etc all hiked up the rate you are paying “mid-contract”. It is very much about the principle here and not the amount!!
@MartinSLewis@politico Sort out the misery of excessively high energy prices before the poor freeze for another winter and remove the freeze on income tax thresholds so that the poorer workers of this country are penalised quite so badly. Oh and maybe do away with TV licence.
@MartinSLewis@GMB It’s no different with Water either - I’m a low user and nearly half my water bill is standing charges. The problem with Water is that you can’t shop around so they’ve got you over a barrel (no pun intended). The whole utility system is geared against the consumer in all ways.
@SarahB0312@MartinSLewis But the searches are not negative, it’s the impact they have on a credit score so they are an effect and the effect “is” negative….singular
@MartinSLewis I also think there should be a review over discounts for married people. I split up from my husband so took him off my car insurance - my premium went UP immediately as I am apparently now a higher risk🤬
@HORISracing@MartinSLewis When I started work early 80’s I paid 33% tax….as it’s reduced over time so has quality of life. More taxes ARE the answer but need thresholds to be realistic so that low incomes are not taxed at all. Farcical that low incomes are taxed then have to claim back thru benefits.
@Stu0590@MartinSLewis You’re obviously not single then. Us singletons pay proportionally more for everything. I still have to pay the same gas/elec and water standing charges, insurance, rent, etc. …it’s a singles tax in effect and very unfair imho.
@MartinSLewis Another alternative might be to base on property size rather than value. Two properties of equal size (and with equal # inhabitants) but differing values could realistically be in different bands - even though using same local resources.
@MartinSLewis Controversial I know, but perhaps the poll tax was a fairer system - that way everyone pays their fair share. I live on my own and so qualify for 25% discount - but 2 people living in same band and bigger property are effectively paying less than me (per person).
