Leading palliative care specialist and expert witness at the inquest Professor Sam Ahmedzai talks here about NICE guideline NG163 and what this protocol (introduced on April 3rd 2020) instructed doctors and nurses to do with patients presenting with respiratory issues.

appearing as the expert witness at the Derek Dimmock inquest at Southwark Coroner’s Court in London, Ahmedzai says the following in a new Swedish documentary on STV:

“What really chilled us to the bone… is a statement… it said: ‘sedation and opioid use should not be withheld because of an inappropriate fear of causing respiratory repression’. What? YOU’RE GONNA KILL PEOPLE!”

Why has Senior Coroner Dr. Julian Morris not yet given a verdict? It’s been almost six years since Derek’s death and the family are still being made to wait. This is beyond torturous for wife Maureen and son Paul, who I’ve supported since the start and who don’t deserve to be treated so cruelly.
