It was an honor to warmly welcome the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, to Government House, Asaba, today. The IGP is in the state for various reasons, including the commissioning of additional Hilux operational vehicles for OPERATION DELTA SWEEP (ODS). This initiative aims to enhance the daily and nightly patrols of the combined Task Force. The commissioning of these vehicles significantly increases the number of patrol vehicles available to the Task Force. This effort is a direct response from our administration to the fourth pillar of the MORE Agenda - Enhanced Peace and Security.

The Delta State Government is on the verge of completing a major project to improve digital literacy and education. The Information and Communication Technology/Computer-Based Test (ICT/CBT) Centre in Onicha-Olona, Aniocha North Local Government Area, is now 95% complete in both phases I and II.

During an inspection of the centre today, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon. Daniel Odigie, assessed the facility's progress, which includes 300 custom-built computer systems, alternative power supply, and a solar-powered borehole. The centre’s flooring and internal/external painting have also been completed.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori remains dedicated to ensuring that such initiatives provide local students with access to modern technology and examination facilities, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to bridging the digital divide in Delta State.

In line with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to rehabilitating and constructing critical road infrastructure across Delta State for improved connectivity and ease of movement, the Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads), Mr. Charles Aniagwu, earlier today handed over the 2.7km Issele-Azagba-Otulu road in Aniocha North Local Government Area to the contractor for completion.

During the inspection, Mr. Aniagwu also visited the construction sites of Ichie James Obodoechi Avenue and Chikozie Okafor Road in Asaba, Oshimili South Local Government Area, as well as the failed portions of the Benin-Asaba Highway. He emphasized Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to ensuring the safety of commuters, particularly on the Benin-Asaba Highway, urging the contractor engaged by the federal government to expedite repairs on the affected sections, as road users are facing significant challenges.

This afternoon, at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly-elected Local Government Council Chairmen and Vice-Chairmen held at the Dome Event Centre, Asaba, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori reaffirmed Delta State's commitment to local government autonomy and financial independence. He emphasized the importance of transparency, stating that the Supreme Court ruling on autonomy does not affect Delta State as the government has always supported and supplemented local government funds.

Governor Oborevwori urged the newly sworn-in officials to remain present in their respective LGAs, dedicating their time to serving the people directly. He called on them to uphold fairness, justice, and compassion while working with security agencies and staff to maintain law and order. He also highlighted the need for improved environmental sanitation and public awareness on good sanitation habits, assuring ongoing state support for the officials in their duties.
