One day, I’ll share how I found myself on holiday next to a football player’s rented apartment. [Amazing human btw]. Said hi to everyone. Paid for a kids birthday next door. Followed him with respect since. He played at the World Cup.
Context: fans expect athletes to stay miserable after a bad result. 😂 They don’t. Well, they do but with context.
Unlike you and me, after a loss, they wake up to a sunset in Spain with another salary due at the end of the week. We’re not the same. And this isn’t to bash an athlete’s lifestyle. They’ve earned it.
It’s simply to add some context as to why you shouldn’t care about these things too deeply. Football is a job for them. You have a job too, and you have to do it well.
For them, a loss hurts for a day or two. But they’re often so blessed that abundance cushions the blow. That doesn’t always mean they’re happy, but it does provide a buffer.
Imagine having a terrible day at work as a cashier, then by 8 a.m. the next morning you’re in Italy, surrounded by beautiful people, with everything paid for, and you’re still expecting a cheque at the end of the pay period.
So be careful with parasocial relationships involving popular figures or huge celebrities. How they live, who they date, or what they do in private can easily consume your attention. You don’t know a lot of these people personally. You might miss the beauty of your own life along the way.
Just a random Friday thought. Take care.
My daughter just asked me if it is possible for us to go on holiday for 3 months, come back and see how we feel. And if we feel like going again, then we can go back. I asked her, "what about school?" She said she can think about it while we are on holiday 😂
I’ve always been brought up to believe ‘Christmas is for family’, nangu kuli ubwali na popa paps made sure everyone ‘felt at home’. Spend time with fam guys, don’t opt to go ‘feel at home’ somewhere else… nga nifyo tag your loved ones along. Merry Christmas 🎄.
A public figure is not public property.
Before anything else they are a child, a sibling, a friend and even a parent. You only know them from their gift. Those closest know them by their heart.
Course correction and rediscovering self-worth often finds you when you’ve decided to make changes around you. It’s unwise to demand something you lack the capacity to sustain. If we are to call it out by faith, our actions need to prepare room for it. We don’t just become.
