Today, the Chagossians return to court. And frankly, the fact that this case is even happening in 2026 should be astonishing.

We should not be arguing over whether a people have the right to determine their own future.

Labour should NOT be spending taxpayers' money fighting people who simply want to live in the homeland of their parents and grandparents.

We should not be in a position where the descendants of those who were removed from their islands are once again forced to stand before judges and defend their right to remain there.

Self-determination is not a radical concept. It is a fundamental democratic principle.

If anyone in 2026 genuinely believes that the Chagossians should not have a say over the future of their homeland, then they need to explain why every other people on earth deserve that right but the Chagossians do not.

The Chagossians have spoken. They want their islands to remain British. They want the right to return home as British citizens.

They want a future determined by the people of the Chagos Islands, not imposed upon them by politicians.

Today should never have been necessary.

But since it is, we wish the very best of luck to the brilliant legal team representing the Chagossians as we continue this fight for justice, self-determination and common sense.

Good luck to Philip Rule KC, James Tumbridge and the entire team. The whole country should be watching.

England's flag should never be viewed as a problem. And the Great British PAC will hold to account any politician who treats pride in England as something to be discouraged, regulated or driven from public view.

Those elected to represent the people of England should remember that their duty is to serve the nation, not apologise for it. Any councillor who loses sight of that fact should expect to be held accountable.
