Brazil has declared #COP30 the "COP of truth." In a document called #GlobalMutirão - referring to the Indigenous concept of unity - the Presidency has called for a tripling of climate financing, stressing that the cost of inaction is far higher than that of #ClimateAction.
#COP30 entered its second week and the negotiations are getting more intense, as environmental ministers make their way to #Belém. We continue to be focused on the lack of funding for #lossanddamage and attempts to include carbon markets as part of the #JustTransition.
On day 5 of #COP30, we sat in on the negotiations on the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage. Despite an increasingly urgent need, only part of the money that has been promised has been transferred and the modalities to distribute it are not finalized.
Today, access to #COP30 was briefly blocked by an #Indigenous protest. The demonstration points at yet another concern in #Belem: many do not feel represented in the negotiations. #ClimateAction can only be effective if it is also inclusive!
Our Executive director @MaWangari joined @FranciscansIntl in Brazil for COP30.
A wonderful moment to add the faith voice and inputs in the ongoing COP discussions. we are grateful to all the faith actors championing the care care of mother earth & the poor.

With negotiations underway on day 4 of #COP30, we’re seeing worrying attempts to water down human rights language and include fossil fuels in a #JustTransition. Check out our daily update for more!
It's a wrap for day 1 at #COP30
While States are still negotiating the final agenda, we take some encouragement from Brazil's insistence that this needs to be a COP of implementation - empty promises will no longer do. However, this can't be an excuse to lower future ambitions!
30(!) UN Special Procedures are calling on States to negotiate at #COP30 in accordance with the recent #ICJ Advisory Opinion that concluded all countries have a duty to protect the climate from harmful greenhouse gas emissions.

As #COP30 kicks off, climate justice advocates from faith communities are having a #TalanoaDialogue to gather their experiences and ideas💡
3️⃣simple questions guide their thinking.
📢The outcomes will be shared with the @UNFCCC presidency.

On day 4 of #IGWG11, we turned to the Chair's Proposals on articles related to to jurisdiction, liability, access to justice, and victims.
While we appreciate these efforts, we stressed that sufficient time is needed to ensure the effective participation of all stakeholders.
On day 3 of #IGWG11, we finished reading the full draft text which is big and positive step to advance the deliberations. However, we are concerned by the efforts to remove clauses protecting against undue political influence by businesses from the #BindingTreaty.
On day 2 of the negotiations for a #UN#BindingTreaty, States turned to two critical articles.
The question, simply put: once a treaty is adopted, what tools are there to make sure governments comply?
#IGWG11 Day 1 Recap: While we already saw some attempts to water down the #BindingTreaty, we were also encouraged to see States raise the right to a #HealthyEnvironmentForAll
