Imagine your teenager is put on the sex offender registry for consensual sex. There is a case in BREVARD County Florida recently where the offender was HUNTED and MURDERED by using the PUBLIC SEX OFFENDER REGISTRY.
The person killed this young man then proceeded to dismember him and leave him in suitcases by the beach. This young man who was killed, was a TEENAGER in high school when he was put on the sex offender registry. He made a teenage decision. He was 28 years old when he was killed. It’s hard to believe that this happens. How could our society be OK with this? This could be your child, your teenager, certainly could have been mine, it could be your grandchild or your brother. This is something that needs to be changed. The registry should not be allowed for this use, murdering people, hunting them. It must go private. I am trying to change this law. We should be PROTECTING OUR YOUTH Saving our children. My children and yours. The sex offender registry has ruined many of our youths lives because they made an immature decision. My God, they were teenagers. My son was 18 when he had teen sex and missed the Romeo and Juliet clause by weeks you have sentenced him and labeled him for life. I’ve written this administration and received a reply from the pardon attorney that because it wasn’t a federal case, I must go through the state. Look at what you’re doing. Think if this was your child. He was a teenager that had consensual sex. No rape, no force, but yet you offer NO WAY OUT. What is wrong with this thinking? With this law you’re putting in, you expect him to let a child drown and die or he goes to prison forever? I raised MY CHILDREN WELL, and I can tell you with certainty,HE WOULD SAVE THE CHILD! Would you not want him to save your child or grandchild because of his label of sex offender? He’s 28 now, and a lovely intelligent, kind funny human who would do anything to help someone. Even YOUR family member, even though you’re trying to.RUIN him further. You are fishing for sharks and you catch a dolphin and you kill it? Where is your common sense? You make no differentiation between someone who terribly harmed a child and normal biological behavior? Immaturity isn’t allowed? Many of you in this room have made a mistake. Should you be punished for the rest of your life. I am a mother of Four, I understand. But, I cannot standby and allow this to go on. I must stand up and speak for the children who MAY DROWN and for my son who YOU’VE TRIED TO DROWN. We need to find a solution and fix this. We are the worst state in this nation and you call it the free state of Florida? I think not. We must find a sensible solution and change the wall to allow for common sense. I WILL NOT stand for this. This is America, we have rights, even though you’re trying to take them away. I will die, trying to save my son and other people‘s children who have been caught in this net. BELIEVE ME ITS A TERRIBLE CALL TO RECEIVE… a phone call that your teenager has been arrested. You think what could they have done? They don’t drug, they don’t drink, what happened? Well, kids were foolling around having consensual sex. This is a scarlet letter, this is something they can never get away from.
