@shdwstar@amitylee13 We live in a society that supports multiple points of view and multiple political platforms.
If you want to support abortion, you can choose a political party that supports it along side you (Democrats).
No reason for the Libertarian Party to support it as well.
@amitylee13 Women and African Americans weren't allowed to vote for most of this COUNTRY's existence.
The founders of this country would have never agreed to it.
Before you start relying on arguments based on what our founders would want / don't want, consider the consequences.
@dgsommersmkts "Also you might want to consider the influence the Fed exerts on private banks in terms of their own decisions to buy bonds"
Private banks that are primary dealers get access to the Fed's discount window.
The Fed isn't "exerting" pressure, it's promising a life line.
@dgsommersmkts I am very familiar with quantitative easing (lived through it), but the fact remains that interest rates on government bonds are set at Treasury auctions by private banks and individuals submitting bids on them.
You can certainly try to fix the blame on the Fed.
@dgsommersmkts Finally, the graph that I shared with you is a depiction of the legal constraint that a government faces when issuing debt.
A government cannot legally pay out more in interest on its debt than it collects in tax revenue. That is called Ponzi finance and is illegal in the U.S.
@dgsommersmkts There are a group of private banks that are REQUIRED to submit bids at Treasury auctions.

It's not the Fed circumventing free markets. It's your friendly neighborhood private bank buying government bonds at auction at prices that you find unacceptable.
