Dr Harriet Berry, @HVB_net Enterprise Fellow from @FraserRhul, has recently launched an enterprise activity "Natural Compound Solutions" which utilises horticultural wastes streams to produce valuable carotenoid pigments #WomenInScience https://t.co/tcvFqWNdPE
#SOL2022 continues with Prof. Paul Fraser and his presentation about plastid isoprenoid biosynthesis and it’s role in the plastoglobule. Different parts of the isoprene biosynthesis have been identified in the plastoglobule structures. They are important metabolic hubs.
#SOL2022 morning sessions are closed by Eugenia MA Enfissi with her presentation “Biorenewable production of the vaccine adjuvant squalene”. Squalene is a important compound used in vaccines. Three ways to get it: shark liver (bad4 🦈 ), olive oil (inefficient) or semisynthetic.
#SOL2022 Yossi Hirschberg continues with his presentation “Tomato carotenoids underground”. He starts asking… “what we are talking when we talk about tomato?” Well, red color, and color means lycopene. But it is not only the chemical but also how and where are accumulated.
#SOL2022 Marilise Nogueira continues with metabolic re-programming and cellular adaptation for high level production of valuable keto carotenoids. KetoCrtds content increases during tomato fruit ripening. They are stored in membranes and plastoglobuli as crystals.
A great Annual Meeting - so much excitement to be networking again. Thank you to all our speakers, session chairs and participants!

#FoodSecurity is a growing concern as crop yields are threatened by increasing climatic variability.
A recent study of sweetpotato 🍠 indicates that traits can be identified to improve yields under climatic stress…

@IBMCP@CSIC and @FraserRHUL partners secured 2021 field trials permissions for next-generation tobacco biofactories, including biosafety and metabolite-enriched lines. Hopefully will be these lines growing in experimental fields starting Spring 2021.
