CORRECTIONAL SERVICE PS IN MARSABIT TO PUSH STATE’S 15 BILLION TREES AGENDA

Correctional Services PS Dr. @salomebeacco was on Friday in Marsabit County alongside @InteriorKE Cabinet Secretary @KindikiKithure and other senior government officials for the National Tree-planting initiative.

The PS was among members of the executive, who included Cabinet Secretaries and Principal Secretaries, spread across the country for the national tree planting exercise spearheaded by President William Ruto.

According to the PS, today’s event was part of ongoing efforts to reduce greenhouse emissions and reclaim deforested and degraded landscapes in the wake of devastation caused by global warming.

Speaking during the exercise, Interior CS Kindiki Kithure said Climate Change is now categorised as a national security threat adding that persons living in government forests must vacate immediately, including those who have acquired title deeds irregularly and unlawfully.

“We must reclaim our environment by growing enough trees for ecological sustainability. All persons residing contiguous to riparian reserves and corridors must vacate and those who decline will be forcefully evicted.” Warned the CS.

Speaking as he led the nationwide tree-planting campaign in Kiambicho Forest in Mùrang'a County, President @WilliamsRuto said the exercise will continue for the next six months beginning on Monday, adding that Cabinet Secretaries would be at the forefront.

Meanwhile, staff from the State Department for Correctional Services took the tree planting gospel to Manyani Maximum Security Prison in Taita Taveta County where they planted 20,000 trees with the exercise escalated in all the correctional facilities across the country.

The exercise was led by Commissioner General of Prisons Brig (Rtd) John Warioba accompanied by Probation and Aftercare Service Secretary Dr. Christine Obondi who represented the Principal Secretary.

The State Department has planted over three million trees against a target of 100 million by 2032 as it seeks to support the government achieve its target of growing 15 billion trees over the same period.
