Prompted by the shocking falsehoods in Planet of the Humans, this thread asks why so many people in rich nations claim that the biggest environmental problem is #PopulationGrowth. The conclusion will enrage some people, but I think it’s unavoidable.
Let’s take this step by step
Anti-lockdown protesters are fine with coronavirus killing people, so long as those people don’t look like them. The twisted logic behind the right’s sickest culture war:
If you are among the few lucky ones with spare time these days, without the threat of unemployment or poverty, spend an hour or two thinking about how we can help tackle the climate crisis. And when can go out again, let's tackle the next crisis! #GlobalStrikeForClimate
@jason_deegan ... as well as lower savings, strong hikes in housing prices, etc. Not even mentioning climate change. All this will have an effect on life time earnings and people's living standards, family decisions, and health. (3)
@jason_deegan The problem is that these crises come in addition to an overall trend in the West to less employment security, lower chances of non-temporary jobs (especially for young people), later job market entry, (in some European countries) devastating youth unemployment, ... (2)
@jason_deegan You are spot on with this. The Great Recession hit the older Millennials at a very bad time and this hits the current 20-30 year olds very hard. These so called "once in a lifetime events" have long lasting effects on peoples livelihoods. (1)
Well played Denmark 🇩🇰
The Danish Government has become the first to announce that companies that are registered in tax havens won’t be eligible for Coronavirus crisis bailouts.
In times of crisis it's good to learn from each other. Germany learned from South Korea and the US could learn from Germany. Some things are too late to fix, but there is still time to prevent an even bigger catastrophe.

Es ist an der Zeit, dass Deutschland diese Form der Diskriminierung aufhebt. Die Blutspende muss geöffnet werden für alle sexuellen Orientierungen. #blutspende#diskriminierung
Meanwhile, in Denmark, the government is paying 75% of wages up to an amount, to prevent mass firing waves in companies which would have to let people go due to the pandemic. The goal is to strengthen the social fabric and prepare for a quick economic recovery.
So, as I understand it, the two key disaster-relief provisions of the CARES Act — enhanced unemployment benefits and small-business loans — aren't likely to be operational for weeks, due to lack of administrative capacity, even though we've already lost 10 million jobs 1/
