Equipping athletes w/ mental skills & tools that allow them to be FREE2COMPETE!
Helping coaches w/ conversations that allow their teams to be FREE2COMPETE!
๐Free2Compete is 1 year old!
A huge THANK YOU to the schools, teams, coaches, & athletes (represented below) we've been able to work with the past year!
A huge shout out to @PrepRunningNerd for all the support!
We can't wait to see what the next year brings! ๐ช๐ง
Themes in Leadership Academy in the last week:
1.) Put your victim card away
2.) You choose what you give your attention to
3.) We have the power to choose where we give our attention to
1st day of practice for fall sports yesterday. Here will be common themes after day 1:
It was a great first day
The team feels really close this year
We are going to be really good
Then adversity will hit at some point & the real ones will separate from the fake ones
They will tell you that in order to get your scholarship, you can't be a multi-sport person. Competitors compete, they don't 'worry' about getting hurt, & they love pushing themselves. They are fully present, which helps them in the future become exactly how they want to be
"He reminds me a little bit of what Bobby Witt Jr. was when he first came in the league..."
- @jonmorosi on @Twins rookie Luke Keaschall ahead of tonight's #MLBNShowcase at Yankee Stadium
Congrats to Free2Compete's very own @jhcooley and guest author @coachhueser for leading @PLSbasketball to the 1st state title in program history! This program, coaches & players, embodies what Free2Compete is all about! Person > Player, the PROCESS drives the RESULTS!
Thank you for the opportunity to share with your student athletes! They were a locked in group! Now it is time to put those new "SCORECARDS" to work! ๐ฆพ๐ง
Do people believe this anymore? Do they believe it but the chase for the ever important 'scholarship' is just too enticing?
Whatever the case, kids playing multiple sports seems to be going the way of the dinosaurs....extinct.
What role are adults playing in this?
Fall sports are close to the end
Did you use the sport or is the sport using you?
Using the Sport:
Team 1st mindset
Building relationships
Becoming unselfish
Finding real joy
Sport using you:
Me 1st mindset
Jealousy
Identity is with "Twitter hype" good or bad
Bitter & selfish
4 Options on Criticism. Is it...
1.) Accurate + Good Intentions
2.) Accurate + Bad Intentions
3.) Inaccurate + Good Intentions
4.) Inaccurate + Bad Intentions
Good Intention = Attempting to Add Value
Bad Intention = Driven by Ego, Fear, Greed
Are your EMOTIONAL REACTIONS regularly highjacking your performance?
Would you like to change it?
Here's a place to start..

Grab a ๐๏ธand a ๐and start putting in some work!
If you aren't training your student/athletes with how they should respond to situations that WILL pop up long before they need it, don't be surprised if they react instead.
E + R = O
This is an important conversation to help athletes, students, & adults RESPOND to EVENTS in a way that moves them closer to the OUTCOMES they want.
๐งต Let's understand this better...
One of our goals at Free2Compete is to help young people today TAKE BACK and OWN their high school & college athletic experience.
SPORTS isn't life, but it sure does create a great opportunity to DEVELOP SKILLS that will impact their life when used correctly!
As parents, at times we focus so much on outcomes that we lose sight of the true value of sports.
"Catch those four guys!"
"You have to make varsity."
"You're not working hard enough."
Jeremy Haselhorst shows us how we can do better.

What does a 'low maintenance' athlete look like to coaches?
1. Always give 100% in effort, energy, & focus
2. Highs & lows don't determine their mood. Mood is always steady
3. Takes care of grades
4. They're unconditional toward the team. Playing time/role does not change them
Don't be an "As long as..." type of teammate:
*As long as I'm getting my playing time
*As long as I'm getting the attention
*As long as I'm healthy
*As long as I'm meeting my goals
*As long as it benefits me
Great teammates are UNCONDITIONAL in their engagement!
We want to share about the ENGAGEMENT CYCLE with your team or students!
Check out the board, how many valuable conversations could your team have from this lesson?
Fall teams are at least 25% done with their seasons. Are these things sucking the life out of your team?
*Selfishness
*Inconsistency
*Dip in Standards
*Entitlement
*"Mickey Mouse" Problems (childish behaviors)
*Lack of Resiliency
*Blaming, complaining, & defending poor actions
Talking about our Engagement Cycle in Leadership Class today. Stages include:
1.) Actively Engaged "All In"
2.) Engaged
3.) Disengaged
4.) Actively Disengaged "Sabotage"
We are just over 1 month in to Fall Activities
Athlete: Where are you & where is your heart?
