It can be noted that since Sept 7, an array of non-profits, including a think tank, some international NGOs and a funder of independent media, have been ‘raided’ and subjected to intrusive, sweeping seizures of information by Income Tax authorities without prany reasons provided.
Responding to the recent series of income tax raids on reputed Indian and global think tanks, independent media promoters and other non-profit organizations, more than 600 Indian Citizens from 25 states and UTs have condemned the government action.
“They — the ones on whom the raids are currently being conducted — are not against the government. They are FOR the nation...And the more we remind ourselves and our government of this, the more they will remember that they are here not for themselves, but for us. For all of us,”
A solidarity statement is being put out by a wide range of concerned citizens in response to recent raids on credible non-profit and media organisations.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights @mbachelet "Charges of sedition against journalists and activists for reporting or commenting on the protests, and attempts to curb freedom of expression on social media, are disturbing departures from essential human rights principles."
This comes a day after India tells UN Human Rights Council that
"...proactive civil society have contributed to full enjoyment of human rights by our people."
While back home more and more activists and NGOs are persecuted.
