WHY should charity be VOLUNTARY?
Charity is SACRIFICE, a gift to help others.
YOUR gifts sacrifice YOU.
GOVT gifts sacrifice OTHERS.
NOBODY rightfully sacrifices others.
@biigrem The idea that the ugly detail of compelling our neighbors to sacrifice for absolute strangers is somehow normal and caring is deeply disturbing.
"If politicians stopped meddling with things they don’t understand, there would be a more drastic reduction in the size of government than anyone in either party advocates.”
— Thomas Sowell
Under capitalism, you can spend your entire life publicly criticizing capitalism, writing books against it, and selling anti-capitalist merch for a profit.
Under communism, writing a single private pamphlet criticizing the party gets you sent to a forced labor camp or put against a wall.
The sheer tolerance of freedom vs. the fragile cowardice of tyranny.
What's considered a minimal quality of life today would have been unimaginable luxury to most people throughout history.
Indoor plumbing, electricity, refrigeration, modern medicine, instant communication, and access to food from around the world.
Much of what ordinary people enjoy today was once unavailable even to the wealthiest.
Capitalism has made yesterday's luxuries today's necessities.
And somehow, this extraordinary progress is presented as evidence of failure.
“Envy was once considered to be one of the seven deadly sins before it became one of the most admired virtues under its new name, ‘social justice.’”
— Thomas Sowell
@SenWarren Listen to yourself!
You're advocating specific laws for specific people. So much for equality before the law!
YES, conflict of interest is a problem.
NO, it won't be solved by curtailing freedom.
YES, it can be solved by limiting government power.
#SelfOwnership is the root.
Do you believe initiating coercion
- whether by you or a paid agent (e.g., government) -
against others' bodies or properties
is ethical human interaction?
"Yes" - You're an authoritarian
"No" - You're a libertarian
"Maybe" - You're an authoritarian

Capitalism didn't create your need to work to survive. Nature did.
An employer doesn't impose that necessity upon you. He offers you an opportunity to satisfy it through voluntary exchange.
Socialism doesn't eliminate the necessity of work. It merely transfers authority over production to politicians or the collective.
Under capitalism, you're free to change employers, negotiate wages, work for yourself, or establish a cooperative. None guarantees success, but the freedom exists.
And here's where your moral superiority becomes particularly ridiculous.
You condemn people for offering employment on terms others are free to reject, yet consider yourself morally entitled to dictate how they must use their property, run their businesses, and compensate others.
You call voluntary agreements exploitation while presenting coercion as compassion.
Your objection isn't that people are being forced to serve others. It's that they aren't being forced to serve others on your terms.
And somehow, you've convinced yourself that makes you the moral one.
Socialism, communism, and fascism are three flavors of the same poison: the state directing resources that individuals would allocate far more efficiently through voluntary exchange.
Socialism nationalizes production gradually. The Venezuelan government seized PDVSA's operations fully by 2007, and by 2019 oil output had collapsed from 3.2 million to under 800,000 barrels daily. Central planners lack the price signals that tell producers what to make, when, and in what quantity. Without market prices, rational economic calculation becomes impossible.
Communism simply accelerates this endpoint. Mao's Great Leap Forward collectivized Chinese agriculture between 1958 and 1962, killing an estimated 45 million people through famine. Total state ownership produces total state failure. Eliminating incentives entirely produces mass death.
Fascism is socialism with better marketing. Private ownership remains nominally intact, but the state dictates production targets, prices, and personnel. Mussolini's corporatism in 1930s Italy preserved company nameplates while gutting economic independence. The owner keeps the liability; the bureaucrat keeps the decisions.
Free market thinkers draw one clear line: voluntary exchange versus coercion. Every system above sits firmly on the coercion side, differing only in their preferred speed of descent.
