🚨 PUBLIC APPEAL FOR FOOTAGE – PLEASE SHARE 🚨

(BACKGROUND TO THIS APPEAL: A man remains incarcerated in connection with these events. Part of the police evidence presented in court reportedly involved drone footage identifying him shaking someone’s hand and hugging another person. This appeal is about finding any original footage that may provide the wider context of his actions and conduct that night.)

I’m appealing to anyone who attended or recorded footage at any of the following incidents to please check their phones, cameras, livestreams or other recordings:

• East Belfast – 9 June 2026, including the night a Glider bus was set alight on the Newtownards Road.

• Glengormley/Newtownabbey – 10 June 2026, including the disorder around the Antrim Road/Sandyknowes area.

• The earlier East Belfast incident involving Stephen Nolan being surrounded by a crowd, including any footage showing interactions involving Steven Baker.

I am specifically looking for footage that may show Steven Baker.

According to reporting of the police evidence subsequently given in court, Steven was identified wearing a white hooded top and a white bucket hat bearing the words “Keir Starmer is a wanker.”

There was significant police recording and surveillance capability deployed around these events, including police drone footage. I am therefore trying to gather as much independent footage from members of the public as possible.

⚠️ PLEASE DO NOT circle Steven, add arrows, highlight him, crop the footage, zoom in, add text or otherwise edit the original file.

If Steven is difficult to spot, simply send the original footage and provide a written description of approximately where and when he appears.

Preserving the original file, including its metadata, could be extremely important.

I am particularly interested in footage showing Steven’s conduct and interactions with others — including anything showing him calling for calm, encouraging people to remain peaceful, discouraging disorder or attempting to de-escalate situations.

I’m also appealing for any original footage from the East Belfast incident where Stephen Nolan was surrounded by a crowd. If you filmed any part of that incident, no matter how short the clip is, please get in touch.

Even a few seconds of footage that might appear insignificant on its own could become important when compared with other recordings.

73 days on remand.

This Saturday, we stand together for Steven Baker and for the basic principle that people should not be forgotten behind bars while they wait for their day in court.

Steven has now spent 73 days on remand. His supporters are coming together to demand answers, accountability and justice.

Today it’s Steven. Tomorrow it could be someone else.

Steven was exercising a fundamental human right — not committing a crime.

This short clip from the BBC shows Steven located peacefully in a crowd, dressed casually in white, clearly not engaged in any criminal activity. What he was doing is protected under international law: Article 20 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that “everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly.” That right doesn’t disappear because of what someone is wearing, or because of who else happens to be standing nearby.

Let’s be clear: dressing in black or wearing a face covering does not, by itself, strip anyone of their right to assemble. And being present in a crowd where others commit offences does not make an individual guilty by association. Guilt has to be proven person by person, act by act — not inferred from proximity.

The relevant protections are set out clearly:

📜 UDHR Article 20 – “Everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association.”
📜 ICCPR Article 21 – protects the right of peaceful assembly, and states any restriction must be “necessary in a democratic society.”
📜 ECHR Article 11 – guarantees freedom of peaceful assembly, and permits restriction only where “prescribed by law” and “necessary in a democratic society” for reasons like public safety or preventing disorder — not simply because a protest occurred.

These protections exist precisely so peaceful individuals like Steven aren’t punished for the actions of others. If the West wants to hold the rest of the world to these standards, it has to apply them consistently at home too. #freesteviebaker #knowyourrights #justice #humanrights

We’ve heard no public awareness raised on this case from Patrick Corrigan, Northern Ireland Director of Amnesty International — despite this happening on his own doorstep.
How can international injustice be the focus abroad while a citizen at home has had his UN-protected rights taken away?

Freedom of assembly doesn’t end because someone near you breaks the law.
Steven was arrested for riotous assembly after shaking hands with and hugging two strangers he didn’t know — strangers who later went on to commit violence Steven had no part in.
If the basis for Steven’s arrest is contact alone — a handshake, a hug — then his right to peaceful assembly under UN law has been disregarded.
This isn’t just about Steven. It’s about anyone who could find themselves in a crowd, near a stranger, on the wrong day.

Steven and his partner were publicly arrested in December, in front of their children, in a completely separate case.

When you look at the way this has unfolded, it is hard not to ask whether the public nature of that arrest was intended to embarrass them and deter others from doing what they have been doing — speaking out, standing up and trying to protect their country, women and children.

Steven was remanded for two weeks over the keyring and poster allegations. The bus-stop case, involving a poster allegedly attached with a children’s Pritt Stick, was ultimately thrown out due to lack of evidence.

The keyring case has now dragged on for almost a year.

Then came the separate riot case, where Steven spent nine weeks on remand, away from his family.

Steven says he arrived around 30 minutes before the riot ended and was there documenting what was happening.

These are serious questions about fairness, proportionality, due process and the presumption of innocence.

Is Steven being made an example of because he put his head above the parapet and spoke out?

Because if this is what happens to people who speak out, what message does that send to everyone else?

Today it’s Steven. Tomorrow it could be you.

So here’s the question, Naomi Long:

Does Steven not count?

Steven was one of those people with a phone. He was there recording what was happening, and says he was subjected to abuse for doing exactly that.

So why does that principle seemingly disappear when it comes to him?

No press badge? Working class? Not part of the media establishment?

Justice cannot depend on your job title, social status, connections, or whether someone is deemed “important” enough.

If it’s wrong when it happens to a journalist, it’s wrong when it happens to Steven.

So, Naomi Long — does Steven count too?

Zoom in and Steven is actually incredibly easy to identify — his iconic hat and white hoodie make him stand out clearly from the crowd.

So does the establishment really expect us to believe Steven would knowingly participate in rioting while dressed in a way that makes him so recognisable?

Or does his choice of clothing point to something much simpler: that he was openly there to observe and document what was happening?

WATCH CLOSELY — STEVEN IS SITTING ON THE WALL IN THIS VERY NEWS REPORT.

An Australian journalist reporting on the public unrest goes on record describing how people attempting to film or document what was happening were being intimidated.

And right there, in the footage, is Steven.

Steven was also there with a phone, trying to document what was happening and he says he was subjected to intimidation while doing so.

That raises an important question:

Why should the person holding the camera determine whether that intimidation matters?

If intimidating a journalist for documenting public unrest is unacceptable, then intimidating an ordinary member of the public for documenting the same events should be unacceptable too.

A press badge shouldn’t determine whose rights matter.

Your profession shouldn’t determine whose voice matters.

And your social status certainly shouldn’t determine whether your treatment is taken seriously.

The Australian journalist’s account matters — but so does Steven’s.

Same unrest. Same right to document it. Same right not to be intimidated.

Justice and accountability should not come with a hierarchy of whose voice counts.

When Steven was arrested, the media had no problem putting his name and face across the headlines.

FOUR SETS OF CAMERAS — SO WHERE IS THE EVIDENCE?

That night there were TWO PSNI evidence-gathering Land Rovers, a Somati RCV9000 water cannon with multiple cameras including an elevated mast camera, AND a police drone overhead.

Steven was dressed largely in white, stood near the front line and was highly recognisable.

If he committed the offence alleged, how did ALL of this evidence-gathering equipment fail to capture it?

Evidence must work both ways. If footage supports Steven’s account, it should be examined just as seriously.

If Steven committed the offences alleged, how did TWO high-definition cameras PLUS a drone all fail to capture it?

Evidence works both ways. If this footage supports Steven’s account or contradicts the allegations, it must be examined.

Evidence should establish the truth not simply be used to secure convictions.

A few seconds from @sarahwhitetruth live. You can hear Stevie arrive in the area where rioting had already been ongoing for hours around 30 minutes before it ended.

You can also hear him ask, “Are they shining lasers now?”

Yet in court, he was accused of hugging people with green lasers. How could he be doing that if he had only just arrived and was standing with citizen journalists?

Think “that could never happen to me”?

This weekend, a man legally bought a baseball bat from Sports Direct, was arrested and CS spray was used.

Meanwhile Steven remains in prison, with a drone operator allegedly identifying him hugging and shaking someone’s hand.

A father separated from his children, while a hug is allegedly used against him.

With bodycams, phones, CCTV and drones, everything is now scrutinised. When mistakes happen, we deserve accountability.
