Happy #Juneteenth! Chattel slavery is over, but new forms exists. Help us battle modern day slavery, donate to free Black people from Dane County Jail! https://t.co/BqTAUZpN1b #bailfund
We are back in action! We're disrupting the Dane County Jail one bailout at a time. 15 Black folks liberated to honor Black history, exposing the oppressive cash bail system targeting poor folx. Our resistance persists, with May's Black Mama's Day bailout on the horizon.
We will be pausing bailouts for the remainder of 2023. We are in the midst of a restructuring process aimed at maximizing our volunteer capacity and amplifying our impact. Our people are not forgotten and we are strategizing to destroy the carceral system in 2024 and beyond.
“Pointing to one incident is not reflective of what is happening on a systemic level. At a systemic level, when you get away from cash bond & do more evidence-based pretrial release, public safety is actually protected” @alexavanbrunt of @MacArthrJustice https://t.co/9NqVmM8IAt
The tragedy in Waukesha, Wisconsin is being weaponized to push back on pretrial justice reforms.
Our friends with the Milwaukee Freedom Fund, @FreeThe350 & the Joshua Glover Justice Fund remind us why policy shouldn't be decided by individual events.

“can you explain this gap on your resumé?” I threw down my enemy, and he fell from the high place and broke the mountain-side where he smote it in his ruin. Then darkness took me, and I strayed out of thought and time, and I wandered far on roads that I will not tell.
Come out to the assembly judiciary committee to speak out against reactionary legislation being introduced. Legislators are using a tragic incident to attempt to push through reactionary anti poor, discriminatory bail laws, AB 838, AB 839 & AB 840.

Statement on the recent events in Waukesha and the subsequent backlash from prison industrial complex proponents who are using the incident to push their pro prison/pro jail/anti Black agenda. https://t.co/0SinOKz9nm
we have seen this in Madison Wisconsin Dane County too. judges in bail hearings will go on record saying that bail will not be reduced or changed to signature bond because the person lacks "suitable" housing
This week we have seen judges keep people in custody solely due to their housing insecurity. Jails are not public housing and treating them like they are says a lot about who we are as a society.
