THREAD: The two most important articles I’ve ever written are about how difficult it is to exist as a person with a #Disability when you need #Medicaid. Medicaid is VITAL. But right now it drags down the people it should lift up. #DisabledTwitter

We honor the life and legacy of Judith Heumann (1947-2023), whose contributions to the Disability Rights Movement and her advocacy around the issues impacting the disability community were immeasurable. The Kelsey would not exist without the work Judith started decades ago.
@FunFactsLulu This happened to my mom years ago in a shoe store. She needed help but employees were ignoring her. She finally found shoes & took off her jacket to sit. Suddenly they jumped to help her. She couldn't understand why. Then she glanced down.
She was wearing a Harvard sweatshirt.

I hate that people are more comfortable with millions dying from COVID than taking precautions. I hate that people are okay with those like me losing years of their life so they can live theirs. I hate the unfairness. I hate the lack of empathy and compassion. I hate that I hate.
Welcome to AZ. Today a pharmacist denied the MTX refill for my adolescent patient. She's on 5 mg/wk to prevent AHCA Ab production. MTX denied purely because she's a female, barely a teenager. Livid! No discussion, just a denial. Now to fight for what's best for this pt.
This is patient abandonment and neglect of a dependent adult. If it happens to you and you're injured/ill as a result, report the PCA to Adult Protective Services and the police. They may not be charged but they'll be scared into never doing it again. #CareCantWait#CripTheVote
Recovery update: laid in my poop in bed for 2 hours because my paid caregiver forgot to come (no emergency/illness) 💩
This is the reality for me & many other disabled & older people because we live in a society w/o a care culture & infrastructure 😤

Dear @juliaduin Your article about adoption of kids with disabilities is important, but it's full of outdated, offensive words like "handicapped." @Newsweek Don't you have a style guide for respectful language about disability? Please fix this. Start here: https://t.co/KaiBn90XYZ
I finally wrote about being #neurodivergent along with having #CerebralPalsy. I don't quite have #autism, but I have similar traits, and some #ADHD characteristics as well. Can anyone else relate?
@EbThen Exactly. Therapy isn't going to help with depression if you can't get basic needs met. In my Psych MA program, we discussed Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, but spent little time on how they would affect future clients experiencing systemic & individual marginalization.
@EbThen What broke me is realizing that being able to leave the house safely won't mean back to normal. My faith in humanity is shattered & I don't think therapy could fix it. I'll wonder if every new person I meet was antivax/antimask & made life unsafe & miserable for disabled people.
No matter how many selfish people whine about mask mandates, as long as there's a raging virus killing thousands of people, I will wear masks. It's not hurting me. It's actually keeping me safer. The level of arrogant selfishness surprises me and I can be a Gen X cynic.
@appyjumpindaze Where is this mythical unicorn doctor? I wish this tweet was true. I've been searching 25 years for a doc who will fully sedate me for a Pap. They refuse, only offer Valium. Thus have not had a Pap since 18. Not to be TMI but I have spasticity "down there" & any exam agonizing.
@VABVOX Me. I rarely leave the house because I'm high-risk with a disability. But many friends who go out more have not gotten it either. Anecdotal, but everyone vaxxed I know who got a breakthrough caught it from family or dined indoors. Dining indoors is not safe, keep your mask on!
