Brain death is primarily a way to get organs. You cannot get any organs from a cadaver.

Every organ that's transplanted is a healthy organ. You can only get healthy organs from living persons. You cannot get any organs for a transplant from a cadaver.

You are not allowed to hear these truths because if you hear it, you'll be upset. And rightly so, you should be upset.

Whose organs do they want? Certainly from all the children, but especially the people who are 16 to 30. Their life is in jeopardy. If they're unconscious & on a ventilator they're going to get their organs.

Everybody who's called "brain dead" has a beating heart, circulation & respiration. If they didn't have that, wouldn't have to call them "brain dead", you can call them dead.

Dr. Byrne became a pioneering neonatologist in the 1960s. His work in neonatology improved the practice of medicine worldwide. His conviction to defend life became his all-consuming passion.

In 1975, Dr. Byrne treated Joseph, a prematurely born baby, who was declared brain dead but Dr Byrne believed he was alive & refused to disconnect his ventilator. Joseph made a full recovery & is now grown, married & has 3 children of his own. Joseph motivated Dr. Byrne to begin the long battle to oppose brain death as a definition of death in the United States.
