When Joseph went down to Egypt, he became Egyptian in appearance, yet he remained Hebrew at heart. He looked so much like an Egyptian that when his brothers stood face to face with him, they didn’t recognize him.

To the Egyptians, his appearance was familiar. To his own brothers, he was foreign.

But that wasn’t the end of Joseph’s story. He was never destined to remain hidden behind an Egyptian identity forever.

At the appointed time, he removed what had made him unrecognizable and revealed himself to his Hebrew brothers, saying, “I am Joseph.”

It’s a beautiful foreshadowing of Yeshua. He came to His own, yet over time He became so cloaked in Gentile culture and identity that His Jewish brethren no longer recognize Him.

But the day is coming when He will reveal Himself to Israel, and the world will know Him for who He truly is.

The First Believers Were Jewish… and the Last Will Be Too

Christianity didn’t begin as a Gentile movement.
It began inside Israel.

All twelve apostles were Jewish.
All the earliest disciples were Jewish.
The first leaders of the Church were Jewish.
Even the human authors of the New Testament were Jewish.
At the beginning, this was not a new religion—
it was a Jewish movement centered on Israel’s Messiah.

❖ Acts 2:5
“Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven.”

❖ Acts 2:36
“Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”

❖ Acts 2:41
“Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.”
Thousands of Jews in Jerusalem believed.
The first Church was overwhelmingly Jewish.

They didn’t stop being Jewish.
They recognized their Messiah.
The Church was not a replacement for Israel.
It was the believing remnant within her.

❖ Acts 21:20
“You see, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of those who have believed. They are all zealous for the law.”
They remained Jews.
Now they were Messianic—followers of Israel’s Messiah.

❖ Romans 11:1
“I ask, then, has God rejected his people? By no means! For I myself am an Israelite…”

❖ Romans 11:5
“So too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace.”

This is not a one-time moment.
It is a pattern.
A remnant then…
A remnant now…
And soon, something greater.

❖ Romans 15:8
“For I tell you that Christ became a servant to the circumcised to show God’s truthfulness, in order to confirm the promises given to the patriarchs.”
Faith in Yeshua doesn’t erase Jewish identity—
it confirms the promises made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

As Arnold Fruchtenbaum has said:
“Messianic Jews do not stop being Jews. They become completed Jews.”

And the story doesn’t end in Acts.
It comes full circle—through fire.

Scripture speaks of a coming time called “Jacob’s trouble.”

❖ Jeremiah 30:7
“Alas! That day is so great there is none like it; it is a time of distress for Jacob; yet he shall be saved out of it.”

❖ Daniel 9:27
“…in the middle of the week he shall put an end to sacrifice and offering…”
At the midpoint, the covenant is broken.
The Temple is defiled.
And a global assault on Israel begins.

❖ Daniel 12:1
“There shall be a time of trouble, such as never has been…”
But this pressure is not the end—it is the turning point.

❖ Hosea 5:15
“…in their distress they will earnestly seek me.”
And then—national recognition.

❖ Zechariah 12:10
“They will look on me, on him whom they have pierced…”

❖ Matthew 23:39
“You will not see me again, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’”

❖ Romans 11:26–27
“And in this way all Israel will be saved… ‘The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob.’”

From first to last—
Am Yisrael remains at the center of God’s redemptive plan.
And when they recognize their Mashiach,
the King will return.

❖ Zechariah 14:9
“And the LORD will be king over all the earth. On that day the LORD will be one and his name one.”

The gospel didn’t replace Israel.
It revealed her Messiah.
The story begins with Jewish believers in Jerusalem…
and it ends with Israel welcoming her King.
