They are Locking Us Out of the public hearing for Bill de Blasio’s jail expansion plan!
Call elected officials who are inside to demand they let us in!

There’s at least 50 people lined up on one side of City Hall trying to get into the jail hearing.
Mind you, this is the ONLY public hearing that City Council is holding.
Let us in! @NYCCouncil @NYCSpeakerCoJo
DOC doing classic abusive tactics and telling us they’ve changed. Ongoing murder, torture and systemic corruption testify to the power of their “reforms.” Take away their cages, don’t build them any new ones!
@_mjwilliams_ @CR_NYC @NYCCouncil I’m in the line outside the fence. In the past 15 minutes, 5 people who had been waiting in line for a long time have left. The city council is deliberately thwarting participation.
From a comrade inside:
“Guard says they have access to one overflow room and are ‘trying to prepare it’ for people on line...”
@NYCCouncil planned - they planned - to keep the public OUT of this public hearing about expanding NYC’s jail system.
(Not surprised but still 🤬)
Just like every other “public” hearing about @NYCMayor & @NYCSpeakerCoJo’s $11Billion, 10-jail expansion project, they are keeping our people out. Already threatening forced removal/arrest. But we’re not going anywhere, join us!
.@NYCCouncil - What gives? You are starting a PUBLIC HEARING about incarcerating our future without the public!
100s stalled in lines outside City Hall and on Bway and Centre Streets.
Let us in!
Or stop the hearing!!
The lines outside city council are getting longer and longer as people wait to be let in to have their voices heard to STOP this atrocious jail plan.......and now we learn that there’s unused overflow room?! #NoNewJails
.@NYCCouncil - We hear you are NOT using any of your available overflow rooms for this public hearing.
The public needs to be in the room while the Mayor’s Office and Dept of Corrections lie to you about “humane” cages (aint no such thing) and your members nod approvingly.

Check out this line of overflowing people waiting at least an hour to testify in front of @NYCCouncil. today’s is the ONLY hearing on the boro-based jail plan. Folks are out here demanding an END to the $11billion plan #NoNewJails#abolitionnow
We’re down here making our own space before going into theirs. We’re growing every day, because every day more people believe that this fight can and will be won. Join us.
