From 13 December, the UK will require folic acid to be added to most non-wholemeal wheat flour, affecting bread, pastries and other everyday foods. Folic acid is not the same as naturally occurring folate.
But small mills producing under 500 tonnes annually can qualify for an exemption.
I'm identifying independent mills offering unfortified flour so consumers can exercise informed choice.
Consumers deserve transparency and choice.

Today is @TRobinsonNewEra’s fourth day of trial. My prayers are with Tommy and his family.

I write as a priest who knows Tommy personally and has learned to trust him. While confidences remain private, knowing some of the burdens he has carried, I cannot stay indifferent to his treatment.

Behind the public name and headlines is a man: a father, a son, someone loved by his family. Whatever anyone thinks of his politics, his humanity must never be forgotten.

My priestly duty is to speak truthfully, care for those who entrust themselves to me, and stand with people in distress. That includes defending the dignity of someone others find easy to despise.

I may not agree with Tommy on everything. Friendship leaves room for honesty. But I respect his courage in raising difficult questions about grooming gangs, religious extremism, and failures by those meant to protect the public. I also respect his faith journey. I believe he has suffered considerable vilification for doing so.

Survivors of abuse must remain at the heart of that conversation. Their suffering demands truth, accountability, and protection. We owe gratitude to all who have worked faithfully to bring their experiences into the light.

I am deeply troubled by the years Tommy has spent with the prospect of imprisonment hanging over him. From what I know personally, I believe his treatment has been unjust. I sincerely hope this case ends with that burden lifted, allowing him and his family some peace.

It grieves me to see people mock his appearance or take pleasure in signs of strain. None of us knows the full weight another person carries. Cruelty does not become virtuous because its target is unpopular.

Nor should those who support him be dismissed collectively as “thugs.” They are individuals, many with sincere concerns for their children, communities, and country. Their concerns deserve to be heard and considered fairly.

Justice requires a fair hearing, evidence honestly examined, and equal treatment before the law. Those principles must hold for everyone, including people whose views provoke fierce disagreement.

As a Christian and a priest, I believe every person bears the image of God. That conviction obliges me, especially when standing beside someone comes at a cost.

Tommy, you and your family remain in my prayers. I pray that truth will be established, justice done, and that you will be given the chance to rebuild your life in peace.

You do not have to agree with a man on everything to defend his rights. I know Tommy, I care about him, and I stand alongside him 🙏🏻✝️
