Nigeria is becoming a place where citizens can no longer afford to live in their own country.

My uncle returned to Abuja from Canada for Easter after 6 years away, and within days he was in complete shock.

He entered a supermarket, bought just 3 loaves of bread, and the cashier said ₦12,000.

₦12,000 for bread?
How are families with children surviving this?
How are workers earning ₦70,000 coping?
How are students eating?
How are pensioners living?
How are people still pretending this is normal?

Then came the second shock.

He rented his friend’s car for just 2 weeks and spent ₦300,000 on fuel alone.

₦300,000 on fuel in 14 days?
Do people still drive in Nigeria for convenience anymore?
Or only when it is absolutely necessary?
How are salary earners commuting?
How are business owners transporting goods?
How are parents handling school runs?
How are ride-hailing drivers even breaking even?

When bread feels like luxury and fuel feels like punishment, what exactly is left for the average Nigerian?

How much more can people absorb before everything completely breaks down?
How much longer can ordinary people keep adjusting to the unbearable?
At what point does survival itself become impossible?

The scariest part is not even the prices anymore.
It is how hardship has become so normal that people now act shocked only when someone returns from abroad to remind them.

I live in a remote village somewhere in England.
I'm not even joking when I say nowhere in Nigeria is more organised or near organised than this little town, no GRA, no city hub, Ikoyi, Banana Island, Asokoro etc is run as efficient as this village.

It’s been over a year since I got here. Light has not gone off once. The only time light threatened to, there was announcement of a storm coming and my landlady told me I would find some candles in the store and I should try use the gas cooker to start a flame if the lights go out, but the lights would come back in 10 minutes if I could wait.
News flash, the storm battered and roared, yet the light did not go out.

On my way here from London, I used the bus, when we left the urban centres, there were telephone booths every few measured distances along the express, everything works, everything is working.

There is no excuse for light, potholes, guy everything dey work!!, everything dey work!!!
All the systems are working, law and order is in order.

These politicians have kids here, they visit them, they see how everything works here and then they leave to create even more suffering, my question is why don't you do the same in your house?
Is it a pact with the devil?

When growing up, atleast when we visited someone and we saw what we liked at their place, we adopted it when we returned home.

This entire comparison is of Big Nigeria vs a Village of 5,000 people, the village even has a list of everyone living in it, that you can find online, the bus stop in this village get screen wey go tell you when the next buses are due!!!!! If the bus will be late, you get a notification on the app, the buses are synced with Google map and Apple maps.

Yet you are a Nigerian living in Nigeria, or ran from Nigeria and you are still defending APC, you should be angry, ready to storm the streets, ready to show them shege, be like Iran, be like Nepal.

My hatred for Nigeria, for how it is run knows no bounds, and I equally hate the docility of Nigerians even more, Nigerians were scared to come out in 2020 cos they didn't want to die, even in 2023 after the election was rigged and their futures stolen.

But can you count how many Nigerians, foreigners have died in Nigeria since Endsars as a direct result of bad governance.

Many of them, the same people scared of dying in a protest but dying anyway from something as avoidable as (think of the flimsiest reason, it has killed scores of Nigerians).

Atiku Abubakar is the single biggest reason Nigeria is trapped in this APC nightmare.

In 2014, he betrayed the PDP, jumped ship to the APC, and threw his full weight behind Muhammadu Buhari bcos according to him GEJ should not contest because it was “the turn of the North.” That gamble birthed the disaster called APC.

Fast-forward to 2019, the PDP, honoring its constitution, zoned its ticket to the North, and Atiku gladly collected it and lost.

But by 2023, after the North had completed its full 8 yrs, Atiku shamelessly shredded the very principle he once preached, and insisted on contesting again against every logic of rotation and fairness. That singular act of desperation did not just fracture the PDP, it handed Bola Tinubu the presidency on a platter of gold.

The aftermath of that reckless decision was a broken PDP, a divided opposition, and Nigeria stuck in the jaws of APC’s misrule.

And now, instead of stepping aside for a Southern candidate in 2027, Atiku is once again scheming, obsessed with his own greed & ambition above rescuing Nigeria from APC.

History will never forget that Atiku’s reckless ambition is the root cause of PDP’s collapse and the reason APC still holds Nigeria hostage.

This is what will soon happen in Nigeria IF the government does not stand in the way.

We have an abundance of high grade lithium for batteries and vast deposits of silica sand for solar panels.

We just need to task a few universities and research institutes (one in each geopolitical zone for the sake of balance and peace) to move away from rote learning and focus instead on solving the challenges facing our citizens and our economy. We should fund these designated universities differently rather than focus on an equality of mediocrity.

In the meantime, make it drastically cheaper to import solar equipment. We can do it if we want.
